when I full inspect mine, i'll report back. Any clean up, or replacement parts I'll report the "what's and why's". I expect good castings, and I almost went with the bare casting for 219 each. But I want to form an opinion, good or bad, by disassembly.

Are you going to get on them here pretty quick? The trucks got me bog down for the next month at least.. I want to pull my motor and transmission and put it up on the stand and do this. I'm contemplating a different clutch depending on what mine looks like when I pull it out...

That would spruce up my 318. Lol
I'm strongly contemplating that intake manifold for $135 but if I was going to pay the $700 for the heads I would definitely pay the 820 and get the manifold as well.. I've wanted one of those to do a magnum swap..
This morning I was contemplating the hundred and $22 cam that I need to buy for this 318 along with timing chain and other things. I could pull one of the 318 out of one of the Durango's for the truck and do the Magnum swap cheaper seemingly then buying a cam and lifters..
I had to scratch that plan as it was not keeping it simple..

they were supposed to be in stock, so I should have them next week. Not sure what I'm even going to put them on, but I'll be impatient to see what I find in the disassembly.

Have the Dremel ready when you open them up, it will be obvious where gains can be made.
Have fun with a great winter project. I believe the SM's are a good investment.

The sure makes Summit 10% off seem weak as hell.. and that's only 10% off some stuff...
Summit is not as competitive as they use to be. They use to match the Jeg's spending discounts on their main page of their website. I guess you have to ask for it now. Kind of a pain, but Summit has some exclusive parts that Jeg's can't get, so maybe they don't want to discount their own parts if they don't have to.

May buy a set of the big block while the sale is on as well.... we'll see.

Please do tell us about the obvious games and where to stick the Dremel...lol..
I know I left myself wide open.. pun intended...

I took advantage of a Black Friday sale about 5 years ago from Speedmaster and got a set of those heads they have proven to be a hot little upgrade it was hard for me to move away from X head's after many years of great service and all the time that I put into them but I have no regrets in going to the Pro Comp head

Thank you for that post! That is exactly where I'm at now.. I have quite a bit of time and money into my 596 heads and curious to what my new results will be with the Speedmaster heads.. I know one thing they're going to be 50 pounds lighter!...

Yes your back will love it LOL I saw a small but noticeable gain to all RPM range. I run a 1969 340 forged bottom end with 242 at 50 camshaft with a t a six-pack top end I believe these heads will support 450 horsepower without porting, and maybe a little more

Did you get cnc-ported?..

small but noticeable gain compared to stock X heads? or did you X heads have work done to them?

Do me a favor and knock that lone little casting core shift off the #1 exhaust port! OCD is kicking in.....

The Chinese hardware makes me uncomfortable, but the price for two bare CNC heads was only a couple hundred less than the loaded ones, so I figured it was work a shot. I've been waiting on a good deal on a set of trick flows, but I also want to have the car back together in the spring, and a new boiler was higher on my list of priorities than a better set of heads.

A disassembly, clean and check, plus a geometry kit from B3 will be sufficient I hope.

Sweet, thx. I picked up two cast aluminum pans for 70 a piece.:thumbsup:

Just clean up work and small amount of porting to the intake side, more time spent on the exhaust ports a very good valve job and top shelf valves for the day make no mistake they were worthy X. But not a full race port.

My head's are not cnc'd flow numbers that I have been able to inquire put them at around 250 @500 they have worked for me well

well it took me a couple hours but I finally figured out what you're talking about LOL..
I was thinking if I grind that whole Corner out make it a square hole there'd be no room left for the headers to seal and then the header is shaped that way as well! LOL now I think I get what you're talking about.. actually opposite of all that..
Not the sharpest tool in the shed but I'm trainable...

If I was going to go OCD on that area, I'd just start a the top of that angled side of the port and just blend up. I wouldn't go down.

I'd bet a lot of money the air (at least at some point in the lift curve) will be flowing back into the port right there.

So making it bigger across that area will make that worse.

I don't see any info, are these magnum heads? the pic shows the magnim bolt pattern, and what's the dif on the hydr-r and the hydr-ft, and what's the deal on the free intake?

Ive been watching Summit "waiting". No big sale at all. Crane adjusters, trick flow balancer, edelbrock timing chain set, and a whopping $10 off the Eddy set, that's it. Havent ordered yet. I'm gonna budget next year for sure!
Here's the quandary, do you make Summit price match?...
I want to order my head bolts or studs and some intake gaskets from Speedmaster, but that doesn't add up to $100. I have a couple things I want to order at Summit like a gasket kit for that D 100 and a cam and lifters..
It kind of ticks me off that Summit can't come up with at least 10% off their stuff or maybe that will be tomorrow?..

Same here Steve. I have $1008 sitting in my Summit cart just waiting for additional savings. Crossing my fingers we'll see more tomorrow.

I need this stuff to finish my 5.9!
