Wife? I have a wife?! Lol. She wants the car to be put back together, but a lot of times my daughter is outside in the garage with me so that helps her. Plus I've been doing A Lot of cooking and cleaning which helps her as well.

Also lucky for me having Tony's help its pointed me in the straight direction.. except hes the one who said to clean and paint it up... since I'm waiting on the cam it's not to big of a deal to clean everything up a little.

My line is the paint... not going any further. Going to clean, paint. Unless I'm told or "advised" to do something else. I will install parts I already have (except for different camshaft and valve covers) put it back together and have some fun. Tony says we should be done by Monday... I'm going to try and get all the springs pulled off tonight, valves cleaned, finish cleaning the pistons, new timing cover (correct 68 340 timing cover with timing marks on passenger side), and everything painted in the morning.

What's a cam bearing???? Since I don't know what it is I'm not doing it!

Just kidding. Mine look good and no I'm not replacing them.

And Justin...thank you for the food....I had to hurry home the smell was killing me and it was all gone in a few minuets...GF and I ate well...plus the dog got a couple pieces and the old cat got a couple nibbles.....We all thank you

You're welcome. I wish I would of given you more knowing you were giving some to the pup and the cat. Lol. I know you said it was gone in a jiffy and I hope it was up to your standards! :thumbsup:
 
Dam...You've gone this far, you might as well take the motor out. Clean/degrease the engine bay, maybe paint it. Doll that thing up.

Funny. He actually read word of someone saying to pull the engine and he made the comment today "I almost brought my cherry picker for you."

No I'm good right now. Make it look pretty later when it gets a paint job, for now I'll clean it up best I can with the motor in the car.
 
Hey look at that. A little elbow grease, wire brushing, and brake fluid. Things are starting to look a little cleaner. I couldn't use a drill wire brush because the family is sleeping but tomorrow I'll put the finishing touches on the pistons and it'll look real nice.

That K-frame was caked with built up grease as well. This is going to not only keep the engine cooler but it will keep the crap out of my eyes when I'm under it.

Today we were able to get the camshaft in and degree it. Centerline of the cam is set at 108, which is 2 degrees advanced. 1 head is completely assembled and I will get the other head put together tonight.

Then I'm going to have to figure out how to clean up the engine bay as best I can, with some new black paint.
 
No secret method for cleaning the engine bay. Just get in there with you brushes, scotchbrite and scrapers and get to work. Alcohol, acetone and some type of cleaning fluid ( simple green) will go a very long way. One trick that will help, I've found that aluminum foil works great for covering harness, brake lines etc. If black is your color, try and stay with a satin sheen.

I was just going to use what ever black I have here in my garage
 
Heads are put together and painted, and lifters installed. We couldn't install the timing chain cover because we had the incorrect timing chain crank seal. The water temp guage is test fitted into the intake manifold and really everything is so close to be installed and buttoned back up.

I'm trying to decide if I want to paint my timing chain cover red or if I should do it a silver/chrome to give some contrast in the engine bay. Right now both the cover and the dampener are stripped of paint and look pretty good in my opinion.

Man, only a dozen bolts and you can clean lower 1/2 of the block too! You are this far, what’s another week?
 
You know next time im in vegas in going to want to see it!
 
I have scrubbed on this intake manifold and scrubbed and scrubbed. Still doesn't look as pretty as my other pieces, can it be painted too?
