I have a axle fluid leak from my 8 3/4 with 741 case. I recently rebuilt with @DoctorDiff Powr-lok and rebuild kit. The adjuster tang was all bent up and the axle flopping around. Not sure if the axle could have came out but, I’m sure glad it didn’t. I don’t know what happened??? The lock, retainer, and end play was correct. The adjuster is stripped and tang severely bent. When I ordered the Power-Lok, Cass’s website asked what bearings I was using. At the time just tapered A7. I’ve got to spend some money anyway to fix this. Anybody know if I can swap to green bearings? Any theories what might have caused this? Craig

Only thing I can think of is the adjuster somehow grabbed the axle or bearing and spun. How I don't know.

As for green bearings I don't see an issue. But to be safe contact Cass at DR. Diff.

I didn’t see any witness marks. I was just trying to get stuff ordered.

If I had to guess;
I might think the adjuster was not set right, and the axle started to hammer it in the turns, eventually stripping the threads, and the lock-tab went along for the ride.
IDK anything about the new Power-Loc, but I do know, that the 8.75 with tapered bearings, needs a thrust block in the center for the adjuster to push on. If it is missing, or too short, chit happens.
If the bearings are in good shape, there is no chance in Hades I would give them up.

Bearings are new but, I’ll have to replace those along with the adjuster. I have an adjuster on a cbody axle. I couldn’t get the lock ring off the truck axle. I’m guessing the bearing will be destroyed getting stuff apart. I may have a few new bearings/race but, I need to check the National part number. I don’t have another lock ring.

I forgot about that lock-collar; the bearing should survive if you use a press. The lock-collars are not always all that tight. If you don't have to heat or chisel them, then I have on occasion, lock-tited them on.

Without a press and a bearing splitter, you pretty much gotta destroy the bearing with a torch, to get it off.

Well the bearing splitter and press wouldn’t work. . New green bearings coming from the Doctor. My theory is....I broke it. The adjuster was turned all the way out when I took it apart. I had the diff on jack stands going back and forth in reverse. I was trying to find a vibration and trans noise. That’s when I discovered the diff had broken the temporary spot weld. I was also messing around the pinion angle. Just coming clean with my dumb move. :) Doc says no need to remove anything from his Powr-Lok with greens. Craig
