I know I know I’m posting this in the wrong spot but most of the guys I come on here to see their posts are racers. I got careless yesterday and it almost cost me bigtime. I have just under 2 acres around my house and shop and when I spray for weeds I hook up 200-250 feet of hose and spray weed killer on 400-500 feet of gravel driveway, trees, shrubbery, around buildings, etc. well I have been fighting a slippery, algy slime like crap that when wet is like ice. Someone told me to spray it with pool chlorine so I bought some but I picked up a 7.00 gallon of a chlorine mixture said to eliminate crap like this. Well I had about one inch of weed spray left in my yard sprayer and like an idiot I dumped the chlorine mixture on top of it. BIG azz mistake as it started bubbling, steaming, (chemical reaction) and even with gloves on super hot. I threw it and ran away but man it almost dropped me. Tired, getting late, it took 30 seconds to almost do bodily harm. I’m sure it would have killed me. Just like welding something after you spray it with brake clean, DON’T DO IT.

I hear you.
when I was 15, I mixed bleach and ammonia to clean the garage floor, it did a great job. lol
I wondered why dad about kicked my *** when he found out. but I'm still here. even after painting with the wood stove going and no ventilation.
I did some real stupid ****, even put a metal gas can on top of a battery. lol Thank god for the neighbor he put the fire out on me and the car.

whew, glad you're ok. how long you going to give it before you go back to look at the sprayer?

What herbicide was in the tank ? Roundup/ glyphosate

I flushed out another sprayer so I could finish the job last night. Every time I started to smell chlorine I was like a rabbit with a hawk flying over its head. I did carefully pick it up today after cutting the grass and left it outside as we have storms moving in.

I buy this highly recommended stuff at Tractor Supply. It’s around 100.00 for 2 1/2 gallons and for me works better than Round up. Having as much as I do it still takes three days with the hose sprayer

What's it called. active ingredient ?

An ATV with a boom sprayer would work well for large areas. Dragging hose sucks.

You may have made chlorine Gas with your mixture, that can kill you quick. Think Bleach and Vinegar will make chlorine Gas, nasty nasty stuff. For sure have to know your chemicals.

Ohhh ya I messed up bad. I know for a fact a couple good whiffs of that I was going down and I mean down.

It does but compared to doing it with those pump up sprayers this works great. My 31 year old son lives with me but this is a job I insist on doing. (This crap can’t be good for you) I save an old pair of shoes just for this. The hose dragging is a real workout especially on my hillside property.

Thanks Pitts ... I just made my wife read this ... she doesn't 'take my word for it' when messing with Round-up and or bleach and using the same pump sprayer. Long gravel driveway here too.

Any interaction with chlorine is bad news, in another life we had an in ground pool & so did some of the neighbors. We bought pool chemicals in bulk & stored them in our shed behind the garage. One of the neighbors came over & got some of the 3" chlorine tablets & didn't tighten the lid on the bucket. I went out a few days later to get some & when I flipped the lid off I was hit in the face with the gas from the humidity from the container not being sealed. I was sick for over a week with a severe sore throat & my nose running like a faucet. Nasty, nasty stuff.

They did use chlorine gas in ww1. Mustard gas was different and much worse.
I didn’t know any better and mixed some cleaning chemicals together once trying to clean my bathroom. Had to run out of there, ventilate the house. I’m a dumbass sometimes.

ammonia and chlorine make a Chloramine, a noxious gas. Here are some rather anarchic cocktails...Just in time for your home defense against the zombie/looter crowd. Put each in its own mason jar and tie together, then throw at feet of oncoming crowd. Sure to break up any party. Make sure your upwind.....and of course this is all highly satirical.

Well I just had to run off my lazy boy my dog gave me a direct shot to the nostrils... Does that count?...

We just had an incident at work with the nitric acid tanks, maintenance was cleaning out the remainder of the tank with shop vac that someone must've used bleach in, yeah yellow gas cloud out the back and shut down production for a day.
