Just fast forward to the point of every pass, I don't care what was said in the pits. Cool to watch that year of a 4 door coronet with a 4 speed make some passes... All entertainment to me.
Anyone else following that build? I'm finding it entertaining.
*Please, this is not started to bash UTG, enough on that*.

NO clue what you're talkin about.
UTG saved a '72 Coronet that was going to the junkyard. He put together a low buck 318, installed a 4 speed (OD unit), and welded the spider gears and installed 4.11's. Even though it looks like a normal street car, interior and all, they gutted it down to just over 3000 lbs. Plan is to spray it into 10's, thus the name bottle rocket. They took it to a 1/8 mile track Saturday for some shake down runs. I'm finding the whole build entertaining. IF you got time to kill, go to UTG and type in bottle rocket. Lots of clips on the build. Pretty cool.

I might just do that. Thanks.

It's never gonna run anywhere near a 10 second 1/4 mile, maybe he meant 10s in the 1/8th mile. That would be a reasonable goal for them.

3 speed

they went 9's in the 1/8 last night, with no traction, and Lamchop learning how to drive a stick. They are bent on Lamchop being the driver, though this is his first time racing a stick. They are supposed to return to the track in 2 weeks with better tires. Said their goal will be 8's in the 1/8. Been a fun build, in the very least entertaining

Bracket racing isn't about going fast . It's about being consistant . You can make more money running 13's than 10's because of less expense .

I may watch the video but I doubt they have a clutch anywhere close to moving that big pig that fast and not break parts. And it’s beyond idiotic to take a guy who has never raced a stick and have him drive. On his best day he will be off .3 from a decent driver.

And, if they don’t use a 2 step, the guy will never be any good. It takes years and YEARS to drive a clutch car well, and not having a 2 step is criminal. Maybe they have one, but knowing what I know of UT, he wouldn’t use one because it’s not OE.

Just dumb IMO.

It's called getting out and having FUN and a lot of people have forgotten what that's like.

What your saying is true..BUT...they already stated the goal is to run 10s...so obviously they do care about going fast. If they cared about bracket racing consistancy, they wouldn't be using a overdrive 4 speed...

Maybe I misunderstood, I could have SWORE he said there planning to run 10s in the 1/4 mile. And 8s in the 1/8th ain't gonna be anywhere near 10s in the 1/4. Just sayin

well, if you followed the build, it's step by step. 9's to 8's. Eventually hit it with NOS, and they want to go 10's in the 1/4. Personally, I don't care what it ends up running, I've just found it entertaining.

I wasn’t bashing. Just pointing some of the many flaws in his plans.
He made it very clear (UTG) that there would be a huge learning curve, and they plan on breaking parts in the process. Should get interesting, he's using an old dual point distributor - one set of points for N/A, and with a flip of a switch they'll use the other set to retard the timing a little for the NOS. They've done a bunch of hillbilly tricks like that to keep cost down. In the end, they want to hit it with 300 shot no matter what it breaks... LOL. Again, I'm finding it entertaining as I've followd the build through from the beginning.

He's a big fan of point type ignitions. lol So am I, I must admit.

I guess that’s my point. Why break a bunch of stuff trying to learn? It drives people right out of the hobby. And sure as hell is hot, some guys will watch it and try to copy what he’s doing. The come and go like sunrise and sunset.

If UT can’t find someone to help shorten up his learning curve, he is doing this on purpose. It’s one of my top two pet peeves doing this stuff. We are all hear to help someone shorten up their learning curve. Breaking crap and taking the long road just raises costs and causes frustration.

well, I think these guys are too old in the hobby to get discouraged and lose interest. I'm sure a portion of this is just to generate views and subscribers. Internet and TV is full of bad ideas and stupidity, so people can follow what they want and believe what they want. These guys are just having fun and I'm just having fun watching it.

Is it NOS when it's someone you like and genie in a bottle when you don't?..

Everybody has fun differently. He's having fun. That's all that counts. Why's that so hard for some to understand? And if somebody copies what he does and tears all holy hell up, that's their fault, not his.

I think it's ridiculous that people with a ton of knowledge and the ability to have a decent budget for the hobby just keep puzzle in together junk...
I think it's hot riding when you're young and you don't have a lot of money or knowledge and you're trying to learn and trying to get a few things together to have fun at the track. When you're old and know better and do it anyways...
What's that called?....
