Stop in for a cup of coffee

So i took a 318 apart thinking it would be a quick hone and ring slap.
When i took the pistons out, 4 out of 8 had broken top rings. Pretty ridgy, which is strange the broken rings didn't damage the walls and it still ran like that, I drove it in the shop!

I was thinking it was smoking because of bad valve stem seals, which is probably true.

So now I'm looking into boring it out. I got a quote of $28. A cylinder to bore it to any size i want.

So that's $224. For a 318
Shop here wanted 80 per cylinder, pay the 28

LA or poly? Polys are semi notorious for their old cast iron rings breaking upon removal

The pumping units in the remote parts of the oil patch around here were powered by automotive power of many varieties and ran on "drip gas". The county smog goomers decided less internal combustion engines running 24 7 was better and made the oil producers replace them with electric power units. There are still ag wells operating on automotive power scattered about the valley.

Hmmm....

I got 2 383 short blocks this time home. The one that I thought was the sure thing has only the block as saveable. The one I figured was a boat anchor will clean up with a hone and work. You never know.

Well this RR project is leaving me optimistic.
383 short block including oil pump drive, fuel pump, windage tray and filter housing $50.00.
2 sets of heads, one with valves and one without $100.00.
Oil pump and pickup free.
Timing chain set $35.00
DP4B intake $234.00 (tax included):(
Engine mounts $40.00
Not bad so far.

Them two pieces of shelving were difficult. Planer wasnt set up right, and really hammered the blades. Lots of belt sanding. 3 coats of varathane. Really like the fir, colour really stands out.

Morning! Warm one this morning. 46. At least there was no frost.

Morning gear heads. Cold here and raining. High here yesterday was 54. A new low for a daily high breaking the old record set in 1898.

Good morning, 69 degrees this morning, no rain in the forecast yet.
Today I rest, yesterday I fed 6 of us old guys. We call it a town meeting..shot pool and drank a few beers and shot pool.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Morning. 40's this AM. Overcast and drizzly. Will need to get the farmer neighbor to stop by, cut and bale the yard if I can't mow pretty soon. Was lazy the one day I had a chance...my own fault.
