PO did an engine swap, currently have a six-blade fixed fan. I was wondering if this was the original fan or a replacement? If a replacement, I would like to know what the factory fan looked like. I don't see any part numbers on the present fan. Thank you.

I have what I believe to be 2 65 OEM fans. I will try and get some pics this afternoon

Dibbons, I have both a '65 factory AC fan and a non AC fan. Here are front and back pictures, the AC fan is on the right.

Here is the correct factory fan for A/C cars. For anybody that needs the info, the fan is 17”, no other fan is correct as the later ones are a little bigger and won’t fit the early A body fan shroud. There is also a 7 blade version of this fan, I believe I have one of those on my car. No clutch was ever used on an early A body either, only the hard spacer.

Looking closer at my fan, measures 17" tip to tip, one side I can make out what looks to be a manufacturer's logo "dcPd BS", the other side has a small sticker "engine side".

yours is the correct fan then, brother!

I beg to differ. The fan you have shown is a stock non-AC fan, just like the one on the left I provided. The AC fan I show pictured was taken off of a factory '65 Barracuda AC system. The '65 parts book lists a "Fan fluid or thermal drive unit" PN 2536675 for Valiant/Dart, 8 cyl.

Just to act as a moderator here, perhaps both fans were used with A/C, but we have not figured out under which conditions/options the thermal fan was used. I only say this because my Formula "S" certainly had A/C and it has the non-thermal fan. Not saying it could not have been swapped some time in the past, but I have a hunch both contributors to this thread may be correct! Maybe a mid-year change/update perhaps?

I guess if we really want to delve deeper into the mystery, we could begin by looking up our production/delivery dates.

I think (not sure) the four-blade fans were used on the slant six motors. Here is a foto of the six-blade fan currently on my '65 Signet convertible (no a/c, no p/s, no p/b).

I have the '65 parts book open to Fan Assembly. It shows 2121971 for 6 cyl Valiant/Dart no AC (no blade number shown) and 2206356, (six blade) for trailer towing and AC 6 Cyl Val/Dart cars. For the 8 cyl Valiant/Dart it shows 2658984 (no blade number shown) and 2532257 (six blade) for trailer towing/heavy duty fan, and a 2463657 (seven blade) Field Installation fan. I believe that is what I have pictured. Yes, it's confusing, there appears to be several fan options.

Not sure I understand. That's the part number listed, why would I repeat the same info?

The nice shiny black 7 blade fan was on a 65 273/235 4 speed Dart with factory AC as the only option. I ended up parting the car out.

while the rusty 6 blade fan was on a 65 273/180 4 speed non-AC Barracuda I parted out. Both fans are 17 inches in diameter.

Its crazy how many fans were used, surprised to see so many in the parts book. Your 7 blade fan is a bit different than the one I have pictured. I did a bit more research on the car I got the 7 blade fan from (pictured in post #3). It was about 15 years ago, but I took some pictures of the car and the fender tag, which I just looked at, and it indicates E-1 on the plate, which translates to A/C with heater. Believe it to be a California car, locally owned at that time. The AC was all removed and given to me, he changed the engine and put a 5 speed Tremec in it. The dash still had the AC buttons. These are 55 year old cars though, things do get changed out.

The service manual has the fan info for each different application.
Mine manual is packed away but when I find it I can post a pic of that page.
From memory most early-A with AC had six or seven blade fans and there was at least one that had a viscous clutch.

Regarding the the fan/clutch assembly I uploaded in post #3, my curiosity drove me to clean up and remove the '65 AC fan clutch and look for part numbers. I found the factory DPCD stamp on the fan blade, and the factory part number on the fan clutch. It matches the '65 parts book as the only AC fan clutch offered for V8 A bodies in '65, part number 2536675. So this is a correct '65 assembly for V8 AC cars with a fan clutch, but leaves open the possibility that some factory AC cars didn't use a clutch, and therefore used a different fan because this fan must be used with a clutch due to the larger diameter hole. 1965 was the first year for factory AC in A bodies, so there could have been several approaches, and/or mid years changes.

I'm considering using it in my non AC '65 Barracuda, thinking the fan clutch would reduce drag and increase usable HP.
