Stop in for a cup of coffee

Stuff I deal with definitely doubled since last year. Harder to find deals that will sit on the shelf for a while.

Good morning everyone

Tell me about it. Ground beef Here is back up to 12.99 a pound for the fatty crap. It’s actually cheaper to go to Texas Roadhouse and get a steak or burger meal than it is to make it at home.

You better shop elsewhere. I don't think I have seen over $4/lb around here.

only one grocery store in town. A Kroger. I’ve not bought any at that price because we butcher our own but I monitor it.

Stuff is under $6/# here. I could ship it to you for less than 12.99...

my theory is the store and Kroger are trying to make up their losses from the extra bonus pay they’ve been paying out. They’re paying every employee a 2.00 per hour bonus and a 100 bucks a check bonus for having to work during this virus stuff. So I really think that’s what it is.

bacon is 14.99 a pound too.

3 pounds for $14.99 That's $5 a pound. Still too much but a long way from $15/lb. :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::BangHead::poke::lol:

Normally we stock up every year with our tax check on long term freezer items and canned goods. Not sure if we should go ahead and do that but have it shipped from another place that’s cheaper or just wait it out.

What’s weird is the effect the virus has had on the grocery store food chain.

i was reading an article in Ag World last week, in 2019, Americans averaged 1.6 trips to the grocery store with an average of 43 minutes per trip in the store. Not counting driving time. In 2020, during the pandemic mind you, the numbers increased to 3.9 times a week and time spent per trip is up to 63 minutes per trip. Spending on grocery store foods has more than quadrupled as well.

Now the article says it’s because people and students have been home more and I buy that. But I think it also is a combination of that plus restaurants being closed or heavily restricted in some areas and just like the old days where the town general store was the hang out, today’s grocery stores have become that too.

One of the local Late Model racers was #2 qualifier at Wild West Shootout last night, won his heat race and finished #8 in the Main. The other was 3rd in his Heat race and #17 in the Main. Almost 60 Late Models total last night.
