1965 MMP's Barracuda Hemi swap! The Ever Changing Build

-
So last night did some trans tunnel massaging with my big hammer. Pretty happy with it although I do need to make a mod to my added cross bracing. At first I was worried about this but after emailing to Hemi Denny and going with the torsion bar delete setup I'm not worried about the changes needed to be made.
Tonight I'm going to drop the block in and get my mounts sorted. From that point I'll know what my next move will be.

I really am interested in how you do your mounts for the engine. Photos would be great if and when you get time

The initial fit, test 1 not so bad.
Blocks in mounts figured out. At the moment I have a fat (truck?) Mount 1.5" on the driver's side and a thin .750" mount with a 2" block spacer on the passenger side and the motor is sitting level.
Now I'm gonna try and slide the trans behind the motor. It's not going to bolt right up but it will show me how far off I am..

Once again as the title of the build reads "the ever changing build" I have decided to pull the full QA1 & PST front-end, steering, and Disc brake conversion. After some correspondence, sum measurements, and a few phone calls I'll be going with a @HemiDenny HDK full front-end for this gen3 hemi swap. It should be inbound in about two ta' three weeks. New spindles and brakes should be here on Monday.

Good choice! While I haven’t driven my car yet with the HDK (getting real close!) but it’s excellent quality and great clearance around the engine!

i'm guessing fitment issues? what was not lining up where you needed it?

lol Shhush... Mostly just the steering vs. exhaust, They were not happy. I could "make" it work but...
I had already been in the mind set to buy the HDK torsion bar delete setup but decided the full hdk kit would be better and help solve my issues with the fight between the exhaust vs steering. So that's what I'm going to do..

probably the best way to get everything happy between the fenders. could go old school and do a side steer

Lost a few thread posts from the server update. I don't think it was much tho...

Did get a few parts since the part out of the front end. We got the new spindles in and 11" disc drilled and vented with Wilwood 4 pot calipers in this weekend. Now just waiting for the HDK kit :D
Waiting for this is a freaking nail biter... I can't wait to put this damn motor
:drama: lol

I don’t mean to cause you to be any more anxious/impatient than you already are, but I just got back from driving my Duster for the first time with the HDK. It needs an alignment, pulls to the right pretty good, but dang it if it doesn’t drive like a whole different car!! And with the new stiffer leafs in the back, it handles the bumps so much better!

yours is up next...pre-assembly, then off to CA.
:thankyou:

OH man! :D

Wohoo! It's flipping Xmas for the Barracuda.
First off I have to say "Thank You" to @HemiDenny and his team at HDK, these parts are AMAZING! Worth Every Penny!
Just received the HDK kit today. It's about 100° here so not gonna play today, but will test fit the K member this weekend with the motor. I'll post pictures!

So this weekend I was able to get the sub frame mounted and the motor fitted. No pictures is that later Sunday I did cut the trans tunnel and was able to get the trans bolted to the back of the motor and in its place. But I wanted to mention that this HDK unit will allow many things that other swap kits will not. With this setup I do not have to notch the frame or relocate the Alternator, or use a block off plate and a remote oil filter. ( I'm using a stock 45*) Also I'm running a set of stock Eagle head "D" port manifolds. with ample room! There is one issue that I have run into that that is with the motor moved as far forward as the mounts allow I will have to notch the oil pan to clean the steering rack. This is only because I moved the motor as far forward as I could to allow a bit more room for my transmission.

Does the motor sit higher than it would have stock? Just curious how the HDK setup helped with that issue.

Which model of the HDK did you get?
We're using the Full kit HDK6466A-01 w/sway bar. When talking to Denny we decide not to fully weld the mount in case I needed to move them. I'm notching the oil pan for a bit more room so I may still move the mount a 1/4" forward still.
I gave myself two weeks to get all this finalized so I can have all this stuff out to powder coating. I'm all so going to drop the rear end and have it all powder coated too. Going to Work on finalizing the trans mounts this week should be fun lol

Is that the standard HDK, slammer, superslammer, etc?

The Full kit n Kabutal !
Yes, I’m aware of that. I’m just wondering which specific design. I believe Denny makes 4 different variations to allow for varying ride height. For instance, my HDK is the “Slammer” version, which raises the engine and transmission 3/4” or 1” to allow for a lower ride height.

Aww I see now... I got the "Super Top Secret build" lol. See he does not offer an Early A setup for the gen3 hemi swap "yet"
This is the reason behind the unwelded motor mounts. Another reason why I only gave myself 2 wks to get this buttoned up. Denny's been very helpful and willing to take on this project so I don't want him waiting on me for fitment pic's and feed back.

I think you are off to a good start. My part was easy, a standard early A body K package with off the shelf Gen III Hemi mounts. I did leave the k-frame engine perches only tac welded....just in case movement forward / back would be helpful.

I'm looking forward to eyeballing your power assist and the steering shaft hook up. Learning as we go.
