So im in the process of putting insurance on my dart. Im going through the application process I think I have decided to use Grundy, in your opinion what do you think I should ask for in the agreed value? I have a 1975 dodge dart swinger. The car isn't done yet I still have do paint and interior. I am thinking 10k is this to much to little? In the unfortunate event the car was totalled I believe 10k would cover what I have in it. Does this sound like a reasonable amount that they would agree to? This is my first time shopping for classic car insurance so I really don't know what to expect. Thanks

Put what it would cost you to replace what you have. I just insured my two cars with American Collector Car Ins. Much cheaper then Grundy.

Nevermind disregard this i just found out grundy requires a garage. Darnit! :BangHead:

How much do you think my car is worth ?
Oh, you want to see it in person first ? Picky, picky.... If it got stolen or wrecked, what would it cost to replace it ? That is the value.

Well I'm sure the proof of garaged will come if and when there is a claim.
I'm with Haggerty now. Agreed value is a joke, as I collected, and built this ones drivetrain in 2010 or so. So, what it would take to replace it? would be like 30k. Aint worth that. Amost no rust ride, I had 12 k in the drive train, w/ me bolting it up...sold the Sat after the ex ( now deceased) stole it and twisted the frame...a dud from Texas w/ a rotted 67 Gtx came and gave me 2500 for the body. A Bro of mine sent a Just repainted 74 through Chrysler at Carlisle bout 10 years ago... basically, rust free.... so, i gave him 2500 ,and slow paid the 1500, for a total of 4 gramd . And i have done Alot of crazy cool things to her.. agreed value? 1515, i think.... but the 2x6, galvalumn roofing, hurricane strapped carport i built is ok with them...

As with insuring anything you have , Documentation and good pictures are key.
The whole point with insurance is to not ever having to use it. Insurance is just in case... Protect it like you mean it. The insurance company has no emotional ties to your property only financial.
A bullet proof vest is much better protection than an expensive insurance policy. Only your beneficiary gets that benefit.

How do they define "garage?"

i've done it like this before (converting it from a /6 to a 360)

i would have to assume the garage only help prevent theft, not accidents
so you should almost be able to waive the theft coverage without a garage (but that is me being logical, and logic isnt usually their strong suit)

Hello mopowers, I would like to see you write out here how you define ‘ a garage’. This should be interesting.

Well, this isn't about my definition, but I would think it would incorporate some type of locked 'enclosure' into the definition. You never know until you look in the policy or ask the agent - hence the question. Turns out, a carport may suffice as evidenced by Ironracer. Interesting for sure. I doubt anyone here would've thought that.

When I just bought ins thru American Collector. I sent pictures of my cars under a carport. They asked if I I had garages for them. I had to send pictures of them in there garages.

if you are talking about Ironracers post #13,, I have read that twice, and I am not sure of the point that he is trying to make about 'agreed value'. Agreed value is, you decide how much insurance coverage that you want on a car for coverage to be paid in the event of a total loss. It is up to you to say you want 10, 15, 20 , 25, 30 thousand dollars of coverage. Simple. Don't know why he says that agreed value is a joke. Which in turn casts some doubt in my mind about his statement that a carport is a suitable substitute for a garage. If the guy does not understand one part of his insurance package, does he understand the other parts? In my case of buying classic car insurance the question of having the car in a locked garage when parked at home never came up as I have the facilities to do that. My questions were along the lines of the insurance being in effect when I was: driving the car as much as I want, overnight parking in a hotel or friends drive way when using the car for pleasure - vacation over night trips and the use of the car in timed speed events. For me Haggerty was the only classic car insurance company to check all of those boxes.

Agreed value is the way to go. Put $1,000,000 on it, pay the premium and you get that back if the car is totaled or stolen. Win win

Grundy on a 1975...

Guess I should step up from my bare bones minimum coverage plus uninsured motorist on my 1967...

Not true on you put the value on it you want. It has to be reasonable. I learned that thru Hagerty. You can’t put a million dollars on say my 69 Dart. To much room for fraud.

What are you getting at? Are you implying my car isn't worth protecting my investment just because its a 1975?

I don't even know what your car is?

Understand there are different perceptions based in our age diff. I looked away from the 73 n up cars because to me they were grandma cars and ugly. .. now someone older than me will come along and laugh at my 67 ...because it was essentially the yugo of mopar to them. Get it?
People crushed most of those 75's and others, they weren't desirable...like most 70's barges.

Yea I understand. I know that 73 and up isn't/wasn't desirable. Alot of them got parted for their disk brakes and bbp axles etc. But all of them that got crushed now make them far more rare than say a 69. So if you look at it that way it should be worth more lol
