I Need Advice, There’s A Cream (Dream) Puff For Sale

-
This is the last text I received from the seller. Hopefully I hear something by Sunday or better yet tomorrow.

“Currently I have a pending purchase on the car. I will let you know if it falls through”

So it's the end of the week. You got the car yet?

Unfortunately no I haven’t heard nothing if the guy that left a deposit bought it or not. I’m supposed to here this Saturday or Sunday.

I had cash the last time I was there. I was even showing him I was a serious buyer.

In 2007, I was looking for a Duster or a Dart Sport for my Brother in law...he was young and looking to get into the Mopar hobby.
I answered a craiglist ad about a '74 Dart Sport. It was a basic slant six automatic with drum brakes....you know, the type you have to strip down and upgrade everything to do a proper V8 swap....
The guy took an offer from a guy that didn't have the money at the time but "would" by the end of the week. I had the cash but could not convince him.
In 2014, a guy came by here to buy some parts. Months later he called to tell me that HE wants to get out of the hobby and wanted me to come look at his stuff and make an offer. Two cars and 2 truckloads of parts.
He was the guy that bought that Dart Sport!
It turned out to have some rust in some odd areas...He bought another Dart Sport and then when his kid lost interest in owning an old car, he lost his drive to work on them.
I got a '73 Dart Sport 340 (No motor or trans) mostly complete, the '74 Dart Sport and all the parts for $1500. I fixed up the 340 car and sold it for $9000. I cut up the '74. I sold a bunch of the parts but still have some.
I'd love to do a few deals like that every year!

There is also a possibility that the seller has been offered a number he did not disclose and he is patiently waiting to see if it comes to fruition. Everyone is different and if someone wants it more than you with disposable income to burn then that's tough to beat.

Sellers like everyone come in all shapes and sizes. Stay on top of it until it's no longer available. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and you may be closer than you think. If by chance you get the knock on your door drop everything and close the deal if you want it....

I agree with most of the comments posted and nobody wants to see Car nut get this car more than me,,,,
But we have no idea what really is going on with the seller. The seller has by all accounts given this supposedly buyer more than enough leeway and time to come up with the cash. We dont know if the seller is holding out for more cash now that he see's the interest in this car or if there is a dozen guys banging on his door to buy it......I could be wrong, hope I am
Me, I refuse to be involved when things go this way, I make a offer here's my cell, I come with a flatbed and cash..... The seller calls he calls....There is nothing in this world I want that bad except good health.....
If by the time I eat dinner tonight (EST) and now if Car Nut doesn't have this car in his driveway and I sincerely hope he does then something is up.......YEs I'm suspicious by nature

Bummer. Hope the guy set a time frame on that deposit. Seen too many of these "I took a deposit" drag on for a long time because not expiration date is set.

If you really wanted the car I would have gone on the offensive from text/contact #1. I'm 20 minutes from you and have cash to buy the car.

In fact I would send a message asking if there is a deadline on the deposit, to start the questioning in motion. You want it gone, I'm here now! JMO

And for those that always have to grind for a deal. If I put firm in the price, and you offer me less than, I won't continue the process. It's done and over, don't bother me again about the item. We got a house one time because the neighbor wanted out. Seller wanted ex. 250K firm for it, worth 300-310 at the time. Another neighbor offered 240K prior to me knowing. They got shut down, said OK, a few days later that they would do it for 250K. Seller said nope. We bought it for 250K. The neighbor offered 260, seller told them you knew he was firm at 250, offered me less, so you were done when the 240K offer was done. Now you want to give me more because you are a knucklehead... Just a thought for the grinders. Know that some know what they have, aren't in the mood for negotiating, especially when the deal is a sweet one.

That’s exactly what I did in 2012 when I bought my 1968 charger, the seller wanted $2500 and I paid him immediately.

There are people that are compelled to beat up a seller on the price even when it is reasonable.
I'm not like that.
I like to whip out the cash and pay a fair price. The seller is happy and I am happy.
You dudes that always try to offer less ... annoy everyone else, you really do.
The seller may then be compelled to jack up their asking prices to anticipate another broke dick like you.
If the price is fair, be fair and pay it.

Hell dude you tried to pay me more than my price on that part in Reno.

Disappointed... Sunday mid mourning and I guess it didnt work out for Car Nut.....
No worries Nut, you did the right thing and something good will come out of that

I dont beat up people with overpricing, taking advantage ..... I just traded earlier this year my ranger 275 cv/cc air cooled engine drive, a LN25 wire feeder and a older HD (built better) spool gun for a 1969 Lincoln SA200...... I figure that SA was worth 1,500 tops but what I traded him was 3 grand easy..
I wanted to give this younger guy a break, give him a machine that could start him off doing job site welding.....
I dont know if he appreciated it or not, he didnt start his little side gig and sold everything to my ex boss who is a great guy.... I told him to sell it to the boss for 1500 as thats all his SA was worth.....I told him do the right thing because I did the right thing for him......and he did
Its not always about money or it shouldn't be
Sadly you doing the right thing does not mean somebody will do the right thing for you, but you do it for yourself
Nobody is a saint here no matter what they write, but if you make a effort thats all that counts
Enjoy Sunday and Happy Halloween

Here’s today’s reply when I asked if the Valiant sold. “They have til Tuesday to come up with the money”
