Quest for 7's in the 1/8

:poke:
He needs to strap a rocket in the bed of that truck if he thinks he's ever going to beat Old yeller...:poke:..:D...
Actually, I'd advise you get out there and practice pressing your Emergency button, cuz this big ole' truck with a grenade 200,000 motor is only a few tenths away from your stroker A-body :poke::poke::poke::poke::poke::poke::poke:

I'll race him tomorrow for titles :poke::poke::poke:

we're talking trucks here, I don't think you or old yeller want to run into j par on the highway in his truck.
His truck will be rolling down the highway with that stroker and big tires towing his Duster, don't make him put that see-ya on his rear differential. lol

Good Grief

Actually, we're talk'n transmission :)

Back on point. I want to leave the shifter on the column, so if I go MVB, I'll be shifting from there. Gain room by getting rid of all the kickdown linkage plus a couple pounds. :D I think MVB is the way to go. Because of the column shift, not sure if a RMVB would be ideal as the shifter lever goes up and forward with each shift 1-2-3. RMVB I'd be pulling in and down.

Ive got a rmvb with a column shift in my 69 roadrunner. (I can't take credit for the mod, done by a previous owner) The shift pawl has been modified, ground on, so that first (previously drive) has no detent to defeat. One -two shift is a tap down, no pull, then two-three is a pull toward driver and down. If you pull from first , you will likely get third, so when racing, you actually have to concentrate on doing it right,

Good stuff !

My new truck build could easily give you a run for your money... BUT I'm not building it for that...
Maybe we should chain them up rear bumper to rear bumper...

 bumper to bumper, that was a big thing here back in 80's and 90's. lol
That and seeing who could pull the biggest tree out of the woods.

Heading into winter, strips are closed, so looking forward ..... As we continue to whittle at the ET with Drag Truck (not really a drag truck, it's a 1980 D150 long bed pulled from a farmers field).

It's ran a 8.27. The transmission is a 100% stone stock 727 from a '85 D150 we got for free. Works good but slightly sluggish on the shifts. If we Rebuilt it with a manual VB, be enough to go 7.99 ?? Thought strongly about a built 904, but drive shafts are expensive.

Thoughts ?? Thanks
No big stall or transbrake ? and the more efficient 904 will free up power indefinitely.

All 3 of my sons drive column shifted RVMBs in their daily/only drivers.

I think Idaho is pretty close to Oregon. You have a Dodge truck, go have a pull out with him and make the video, I'll watch.

Many years ago Car Craft covered ALL

My preference in a hot rod, or something that's going to be beat on, is a 904 when built. In stock or driving "as is", 727's are much tougher in stock form.

Amen the 727 is the king of course I mean it was behind anything from a half ton jeep truck 4wd to a large dual wheel motorhome but a 904 can be built easily to achieve 7,s in the 1/8 minus big sticky's and large converter in heavy vehicle.

I remember back when people would give 904s away to swap in 727s. That is why I ran 904s back then. Now somehow I have more 727s and I think only 1 904 core.

If I didn't already have a converter, Yeller would get a 904.

Eventually, if the 440 plan ends up in the truck, I wouldn't mind running the 904 behind it too

I must admit.... I was one 25-30 years ago that pulled 904's for 727's. Always the 2nd gear was gone in the 904. I literally couldn't give them away, so I hauled them to the junk yard. Now... of course... I wish I could turn back the clock !

Is there such a thing as a big block 904? I sure wouldn't bother with an adapter just to put a 904 behind a big block.
No such thing as a factory BB 904. Have to use the adaptor.

The first 904 I built was for a 62 Ford pickup. I had a 360 with the 284/484 cam, a predator carb the 904 and 4.10 gears. It was painted flat black with the cheapest spray cans I could find.
