I was wondering what he’s been up too
Hey, Chris - and the rest of you!
Working with teenagers makes me tired. I go to bed really early pretty much every night, like 9 PM, when I've read to our youngest.
I'm really enjoying life as a teacher but end of semester and I'm worn out. This Christmas I had three weks off and only started getting energy to do stuff the last three days. Partly explained by having Covid from 12/24 but being fully vaccinated it didn't hit hard at all. Cancelled all our plans, though, including new year's since I naturally infected my two daughters (older one fully vaxxed, 10-yo not so much).
Anyway, I've been doing stuff but really slow burn. Put my OD 4-speed together and right now I'm waiting for a pair of shift levers, one was missing, and a hub for the speedo gear so I can fill it up with oil.
Also, I left a 273 block and crank at a machinist. Doing a little build for fun. Got it in a package with an A500 that the seller thought was a 904. Took it apart the other day and it looked nice. Needs a rebuild kit and maybe a few bushings.
My 500" stroker is done and I've fitted most of the parts onto it. MSD dist, pulleys, alternator and water pump housing all new from 440Source. Water and fuel pumps, MSD blaster coil all used. Trying to find a header tube kit so I can put some headers together. Not sure what diameter to go for, though. I'm thinking 1 5/8" will do. I won't be drag racing much and the smaller the diameter, the easier the routing.
I've fabbed motor mounts and gotten rid of the motor mount brackets from the K-frame so I can route the header tubes thru the gaps in the K-frame, so essentially forward, down and back under the steering.
I had my engine builder put toghether a 727 for me. Reverse pattern, nothing too crazy (no trans brake) but beefy enough for my engine and my skinny tires, lol.
I've got a second pair of mounts like this in case anyone is interested. Laser cut and CNC bent. I've poured the 80ShA polyurethane bushings myself. There's a tube welded between the flanges in the middle hole so they mount with two short upper bolts and a long lower bolt.
I made them for a B block but I suppose they fit RB as well. Those are M12 bolts but I believe 7/16 will fit.
