Hi Folks

It's official. Canadians are getting the shaft with shipping.

I am looking on EBay for a 1/2 NPT tap. I found one for a reasonable price shipped from Brampton Ontario in Canada. Perfect.....When I read the shipping section, it says free shipping to the lower 48, but $6.99 shipped in Canada. All I can say is :wtf:!

It is crazy, isn't it? I shipped a very light 16x16x12 box to my daughter in Newmarket (just north of Toronto) a while back, and it cost $75. I could have sent it to Los Angeles for $20.

**** Troy, I new that the 1st time I shipped something to you guys !:poke::mad:

Wow that's ridiculous Troy!:BangHead:
I might be able to get a good deal thru my work. I'll chk if you want?
Post a link to ebay ad.

I just mailed an envelop with nothing but paperwork to a neighboring county for a lady. $5.

I feel your pain. I've lived in Alaska since 91 and it's always the same crap story from sellers.......:bs_flag:

It is for this exact reason I suggested a Canadian buy, sell, and trade section on FABO a few years back. By doing that it would allow the Canadians an opportunity to easily make transactions between one another, trying to reduce the insane international shipping and duties. For Canadians buying from US, the conversion together with shipping makes for a truly wallet lightening experience.

Oh, and $6.80/US gallon of regular grade gas is also awesome!

I have bought quite a few thing from south of the border. My rule of thumb, that usually works out pretty close for most things, is that if you double the asking price, that's what the ultimate cost is in CAD. for us to the door.

Ah, Sorry, I didn't read your post all the way through and didn't realize you were getting a tap from a Canadian company and you live there. A tap could be sent across the country in a small padded envelope for a couple dollars. I don't know what your postal rates are there. Often times anything more than a letter (an item that can't go through the automated stamping and sorting equipment) has to be handled by hand and will cost more. Just sayin'

Between the customs broker fees, GST, and sometimes import duties, the costs can really add up.
I have a U.S. post office box in the border town of Sweetgrass Montana, where I usually have any large or expensive items shipped to, and I bring them back into Canada myself.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing covid bs, I had to use a broker and a local trucking company that goes there daily on one occasion last year. Troy, you are dead on, it cost me just slightly more than what my items were worth to get the broker to clear them and have them transported the 70 miles from the border into Lethbridge, and then I had to pick them up from the terminal, or pay an additional $35.00 for delivery to my house. (4 boxes, medium size, less than 30 lbs total weight)
3 weeks ago I went across myself, was there for about 30 or 40 minutes, but because I didn't have a covid test done while I was there, I had to take one and "quarantine" until I got a negative result, even though I am double vaxxed. Lost 3 days pay for that.

I too use MSO in Sweetgrass, also had to hire a broker in Lethbridge to get stuff across during covid. Then the 8 hrs drive each way from Edson. Makes for a pricey venture. Have a Buddy heading to Sweetgrass next week for a parts pickup.

If the Canadian government ever lifts the restrictions at the border it will be much better. The U.S. side did not ask me for anything but my passport, pretty bad when it is harder to get back into Canada.

"Customs broker fees, GST, and sometimes import duties" ...."eh!!!"

Today, in california, that's not a bad price......

How much of those shipping charges are duty?
Oh no duty is on top of that , pretty much double it from American dollars ,my example is I bought fibreglass bumpers from AAA are in Florida they were $164 each American by the time they came to my door with shipping and duty they were over $700.

I have used USPS to Alaska and is the same rate as any other state, Hawaii too...I’ve sent lots there over the years. Maybe UPS is a lot more?

Wow that sucks!

First set of tti headers I bought in 2001 or so, price was $649.00 USD IIRC, by the time they arrived at my house I was at $1250.00+ CAD. Between the customs and currency exchange, just close your eyes and bend over.

Shipping has gone up even before fuel skyrocketed. Gotta make up for the Amazon Prime shipping somehow.

Yes, Canadians get the shaft but..........you get to live right next door to the most powerful nation (militarily) in the world. So the Canadian government doesn't have to spend billions of dollars on their military budget which saves you guys money on civilian taxes. We love you guys and we appreciate the fact that your country is a democratic nation, giving us a buffer zone in the North!!! Your nation protects us in the North and we in turn protect ya'll!!! Let me know if I've made some improper analogies???
