My guy got on it before i thought he would. Very happy with his work.
Gotta clean the intake up yet, and get it painted black to match my engine. The top of the intake isnt “ tall “ enough to match the new heads without welding. I chose not to do that. Its doesn't have the available meat like a super Victor, but with a flat hood, that wasn't an option. We made it as compatible up there as possible
This thing is miles better than my little Excellerator

That’s some trick looking work! Not lining the top of the port off shouldn’t be a too much of a penalty. There have been some successful engine masters builds were the intake port roof was shorter than the roof of the head port to act as a reversion dam.

Did you have the heads to actually compare openings yet? Bloomer heads are really low on the bottom as well. Looks great though, should run awesome with new combo

I'm interested to see this come together. I got some new Bloomer heads also, and I have a victor 340 intake also. Mine won't be together for some time though.

Rod gave me exact measurements. The floor isn't an issue at all, just the top.
I am trying to be realistic about the gains i will see. Not opening the valve much..or long, and small headers. Kinda actually wasting the heads.
If this was 10-12 years ago and i was younger…660 lift 270@ 50 roller, headman race headers..yada, yada..but i am not..lol

Hoping to see some pics of the heads, too. What little I have seen of them looked pretty impressive.

That’s nice work. Love the burr finish. I can tell you that will certainly increase the power all across the curve for sure.

he talked about his preference of using the burr finish. Said it promotes fuel atomization.
His real speciality is doing Harley heads.. he is very handy.
Thanks. I value your opinion a lot!

thanks for sharing the pics.....i see where i can improve mine (bigger radius from the plenum top to the runners). Pretty interested in your findings with the bloomer heads, please keep us updated!

Michael

Can you get the two intakes on a flow bench for a real CFM comparison??

unfortunately, i doubt it. The heads and old intake are coming off, new heads and intake going on the same day.
Wont afford me the opportunity.
It wouldnt surprise me if the small Excellerator is down 50 cfm over a ported Victor.

It would be a apples to oranges comparison. The X-Cellerator is a great intake, I loved mine on my 340. It’s just not the right intake for a 400” stroker that sees the strip often. IMHO.

Good point Justin. The right part for the job should always be the case.

I used the excellerator because i had it. And also because i knew it would support the goals i had for that combo(10.70’s), because i had an almost identical one 20 years ago.
I wanted to make a certain amount of power, and not more, because of concerns with 8.75 rearend.
Sometimes the reasons for doing certain things aren't as apparent as somebody might think..lol

That’s true. There’s always an armchair quarterback.

Sometimes using what we have is the only choice we have at the time, been there done that many times. LOL

My cars are always a compromise, not really race cars and not really street cars either. There are things I'm willing to give up to get what I'm looking for.

true that.
Going into last season i was worried about breaking my rear with the stroker and a radial tire. I figured it might just live off the foot running 10.70’s, so that’s what i built towards( because from previous experience i knew running 10.30’s at this weight it would break quick..(and did)….another combo while back…lol
So my plan was new Dana this winter, but the broken rear middle of season last year forced me to come up with a quick bandaid..a “ better” and new 3rd member with nodular case, etc, etc from Moser. I know it will take a bit more abuse than a stock deal. The opportunity to grab these heads i couldnt pass up, so i hope it will live one whole season footbreaking it with the extra steam i will make.
Would it be faster with more cam..sure, more headers, sure, a roller, sure..but any of that stuff makes me sitting it out with a broke rear.
At my age, dont want to sit anything out, but a Dana will definitely be under it NEXT season… then at that point..i can hop it up if want to
Kinda bass ackwards.Dana should have been first, but maybe then these heads arent available anymore by then

I completely understand. I'm a member of the broken 8 3/4, remove and disassemble the 727 club. The 408 broke mine on the second pass that it hooked up, it just couldn't take the strain of a 1.37 60' in a 3220# car. Some guys run them for years and never have any issues. Mine only had about 60 passes behind a 340 on them and let go. I am living proof that what can happen, will happen, I've always been luck that way. LOL

Can't wait to see the new combo run, I'm sure it'll run hard. Rod is no dummy.

lol…lol
Rod is no dummy, but Vic did these heads by himself. Rod himself would tell you how important/ vital it was to talk Vic into doing this. Guy is a rocket scientist.
Its because Vic did them i bought them. 100% only reason
