How fast would you like to go.

Pretty simple question but one that could really get all types of replies. Personally I loved going faster than I do now. 8.40@160mph was super fun. Now I love going 6.0’s@113mph I guess many because I don’t enjoy working on cars like I once did. At the track now I unload the car, warm it up 30 minutes before time trials to heat soak the engine, then I add fuel and go. I add fuel every pass as it’s something to do. And even for that I have a hatch in my trunk so I pop it and unscrew the cap. My other duster is more than capable of going faster than I ever have but at the cost of way more work and way more expense. If I wasn’t so close to having it finished I would probably make an oldman 8.50 bracket car out of it (5.50’s I guess as everything is now 1/8 mile. Maybe that way I lost interest because 1/2 second is a game changer.

My goal was 10.99. Nothing too crazy, that's still a street car in my book. Someday it'll get there. Starting over from scratch with the new car and this year I'm just running it like it is

I want to go 10ohs to ten teens with my opel. I don't want all the other stuff that goes with nines or faster. I slowed down my Cortina when they threatened to ban me for not having a license.
On the other hand.....
My old racing buddy has one car almost finished and working on another. His 1200hp stroked LS turbo Malibu small tire car has been run, his pro mod avenger with the solid block Black hemi with a procharger is in progress. Looking for 2000+ hp, low 4s 1/8 with that one.
I'm betting he wants to go faster than nines......

That killed me to see that happen to your other car. Any decision on a direction you are going with it.

I want to start with a 13.5 car and slowly work my way down in ET slips until the money, or the muscle, or the willingness runs out. 9’s would be fine. 8’s would be great. 7’s… forget it…. I’m sure I’ll run out of one of the 3 by then….. LOL!

Ain’t a darn thing wrong with that!
You can still drive the street with it.
Sensible part selection and good build techniques will get you very easy! It won’t even require a lot of camshaft.

It certainly depends on the car and build. I would like to see 9.90s from my Duster. It's mid/low 10s. (Funny how a couple 10s can be tough to real in with an existing build.)

The chassis and cage isn't qualified for anything under 9.90. So that's the Duster's target.

I have and need my Competition Drivers license and currently my black duster doesn’t need chassis cert but I did have it checked and tagged years ago so I knew. It passed 8.50 cert. My blue Duster has a beautiful chrome moly cage and passed 6.50 cert last year.

That's certainly the next step. Comp licenses and chassis certs. I have an E-body build that will need to address those requirements.

But for any new comers to drag racing? 9.90s in my opinion is the first fast bar. An upgraded stock chassis can still get one in trouble at that speed if not respected, or worse? Not understood. (NHRA knew what they were doing drawing a line there.)

Meh, whatever the speed limit is, is fine for me. When I'm done with the car, I might blast it down the 1320. Bein a naturally aspirated slant 6, I'd be happy with 14s, but I really don't give a **** anymore. lol

I just wanna cruise man.

Still in the low 12's and starting to get a little space under the front tire. Not sure if I'm happy going faster, or the body's starting to fail lol. :realcrazy:

My steady thrill would be if my '69 340 cuda ran low 13's high 12's.

I've always said that low 14s to low 12s is really where most of the fun is. You go pretty fast, and don't break "much" and can drive on the street all the time.

I am a solid mid tens and just don’t want to go any faster! I can repeat and not spend a lot of money. Going under ten opens your wallet up in more ways than one! And quite frankly as I age I recognize my reflex’s and thought process sometimes does not keep up with the car. I recognize there are a lot of folks still racing much older than I am but just my observations about my own body deteriorating.

the 67 runs 10:40's to 10:50's .. plenty fast enough for me at this point

I expect the Valiant to run 10.70's and drive it on the street

Rusty, I ran high 12's to 13.0's with my slant for many years.
pittsburghracer, This is back in 2005 or 6. KEYSTONE ! Boy, I'd still be racing if we had a small hometown track.
Not a fan of Las Vegas Motor Speedway anymore.

That is certainly not your daddy's daily driver slant 6. That thing must be screaming for 13 flat. Nice job.

How Fast ??? 55 mph for days all the way across "old" route 66. Sometimes we had to back off of that speed on the old original two lane roads... :)

Why end your ride in a mere 7 seconds ???? :realcrazy:
