1970 Duster project in Sweden

I’d like to see it. Have a link handy?

Ah okay.
I saw they have this really cool proportioning(?) valve that mounts on the master cylinder so you can throw away the original one
Found it quite cheap in germany but won't be buying it myself just yet

Got some more work done today. Then I got to stare at this sorry looking bay. I'm really not sure what I will do with it. I think the best I can do in my garage is to rattlecan it the same color as the body. But it will probably not look very impressing. Or leave it as it is, or paint it satin black (blasphemy, I know). I wanna build my engine and have it out on the road again!

I had the local paint supply mix up some paint for me and put it in rattle cans, and it worked out pretty well.

In this picture the firewall is original paint, and I had to respray the entire drivers side inner fender because of battery acid eating the paint. I touched up the passenger side as well. I just moved wires out of the way and masked off the rest. The second picture is what the engine bay looked like when I bought the car.

Cleaned the block for the second time today, and also the crank. Will be installing freeze plugs, oil galley plugs and the crank asap.

I seem to have 2 versions of the rear main seal. Is one better than the other?

Did you strip the entire bay or mask of cables and whatnot?
What works good for masking the brake lines is unclip them from the firewall and wrap them in aluminum foil. I'd unplug and remove the wiring. Heck it gives you a good time to clean it up a re wrap it.

Thanks! Right now the wiring is wrapped in electrical tape. I don't really like it, it's dirty and sticky. Is there a better product?

Some more progress from today. Everything seems to be within specs so I installed the crank. While I was putting in new freeze plugs I had two that did not go in to my satisfaction, so I took them out again. Do I throw those away and get new ones? They still look round and like I could use them.

I'm back working on the Duster and the 360 engine :) It's been a couple of years where I have focused 100% on starting my own business, I own and run a recording studio and work there full time, and during the startup years way more than full time. But now I have had some time on my hands and is back in the garage and it feels really good. I have missed working on the car a lot.

The shortblock is together and today I installed the XE268H cam and timing gear.

I had to refresh my memory a lot to be able to start working again, just going through parts, my notes etc. Man, I cant believe how much you forget in couple of years!

I was getting ready to put the timing cover on today. As I was cleaning up the bolts I noticed that the threads on three of them looked funny. Are these damaged or are they marked and supposed to go in a certain blt hole!?

Thanks. Is teflon tape or RTV a good idea on those bolts that go into the water jackets?

Yes. Otherwise they can leak. Also the 2 that hold the power steering pump bracket onto the timing cover are in the water jacket. They can leak as well

I would remove the wiring, and go through it. Mend it, re wrap it etc. Everything you can remove or easily mask off will help make the paint work much better. I have heard of people wrapping their brake lines in aluminum foil to mask them off.

I just finished a Magnum build and had a leak at the timing cover bolt behind the lower hose water pump connection. Had to pull the WP off to fix. Also an AC car so that added to the joy. Bolt had sealant but apparently not enough. Luckily I only had water in the system for first fire.

I have actually used aluminum before. It's quite handy to work with some times. I will do this.

Not fun! I'll be sure to seal them!
