Stop in for a cup of coffee

Car back together.

New filter, gasket and fluid in the transmission.

Lifted the back end to run it through the gears. Didn't immediately come back but wasn't sure if it was the fluid getting circulated or not. Indications were the same. Unresponsive, then began to engage

Test drive. Acceleration was improved. Ran through the gears up and down easily.

Stopped at 3 miles... would not go into reverse... cycled the Park lever, put into Drive then Reverse. Drove back. Did 3 quick surges coming out of the parking lot but didn't do that again

Back at the house .. waiting for it to cool down and reevaluate.

Hey Mike. A. Great bunch in here for certain.

I'll get on the computer later up type up the day's report. A win on the carb rebuild...
Transmission is still a mess. It just has a new filter and fresh fluid. Same issue... only change is that it came around to being reactive faster but still nothing when it's cold. Frustrating

8 mile loop... 45 - 65 mph car ran up to like 205 degrees so there's a lot of work left to be done apparently.
Cables still need adjusted I bet. The rooster comb inside is probably stiff and a bit worn

Also, top it off of fluid now that you’ve ran it. It’s likely one or both pumps and the converter were dry.

Hahah. Yeah. The car had colder plugs and a 160 thermostat in it before.

Changed R43TS to R45TS plugs
Changed thermostat to a 180
Cold or hot plugs really don't do a thing for engine temps. Cold plugs will make your engine run rich and like crap. Too hot can melt pistons. Run Champions and never A/C in a Mopar.

But not overheating. Aftermarket gauge?
Why would 205 be overheating?

I swear I'm going to start a thread - How do I fix this?

In the Jokes section

Not overheating. Summit under dash gauge indicates 200 - 205. Instrument panel gaurge is right in the middle...

AFAIK that first mark is the begining of the operating range. Those early gages (66 is still early) may be that or may be the center mark is shifted - Redfish wrote about that but I'd have to dig up the exact reference.

Just go check what the '66 Operator's Manual says.

Had one of the worst days I’ve had in a while. Too many things going wrong all at once. All little things but add up. I need a drink

Reverse is the low/reverse band tightening. If it doesn't engage in manual first then for some reason its not applying that band.

The Park cable' from what I've seen is just to keep it in the Park position yes? Figure I can adds weight and string to manage that.

Shift cable is definitely a two person task.

Am I getting that right?
I tried it and couldn’t get it right without someone holding it

Sorry to hear. If a drink will help, then cheers!

All my toubles troday were small.
However it has led me to a new proposal that RTV should not be sold over the counter.
Only those who pass a test and are given a license to apply should be allowed to get their hands on it.
I would have had the oil pan back on by now. Grrrr.

Ever notice the one thing that is says on the package that RTV can't resist?
Good thing I had some.
