Before I get to my questions I will say I know i could blindfold my 10 year old niece and play pin the decal on the trunk lid and be good enough, I get it.

Initially I purchased a trunk decal for the convertible off eBay, from my initial search I found a bunch of sellers with the same decal so I selected one and ordered it. I get the decal and checked the assembly manual to see where the factory intended to go. While looking at the drawing I noted the part numbers shown, the one shown for the 67 was different from the number on the decal. The assembly manual had 2533529 and the number on the decal was 2833529, so I Googled the 2533529 number and the ECS decal showed up. I feel the number on the other one is a typo. That being said the ECS one has clipped corners, the others do not.

This is a 1967 magazine that has a picture of the trunk on a 67 Barracuda that is original and not consistent with the assembly manual.

Not sharp enough to see the corners.

Looking for original examples of 1967 decals, Valiant, Dart or Barracuda.

Also trying get a consensus on actual placement.

Again, I'm not looking for examples of 68s (or any year other than 67). This is just an example of two cars that were probably done by the same technician, these two cars are virtually identical in the placement.

One is my friends car, the other is a picture found on the internet.

I have a plan on where I probably will put it, just curious on what the consensus is,

Mine has been off for decades.

But the only place where there is residue is on the far left middle panel

This is a photo copy of the original decal I have from my car 67 Dart convertible my dad bought new in 67.

Note the clipped corners.

The number

And the word Barracuda bottom right.
Many of the repos are missing that.

Here is a better image. My dad glued it to a piece of poster board

I thought I had a perfect reproduction, but now looking at it it has 2 flaws.

The part number and a period.

This is where I believe it was based on wrinkles on the original and the glue residue

Note the crease right where the curve of the rib is.

Look closely at the drawing in the assembly manual- the trunk bracing structure shown is completely different than the photos that show the structure as it was actually produced. You can't install it as shown in the manual- there's bracing in the way.
The location shown in the magazine article is probably on a pilot or very early production car that was supplied to the automotive press, your other photos likely show normal production vehicles. It also could vary due to production facility, or even the shift (whoever was working at the time).
I'd place it where your own two photos show it to be located.

It is possible there were some early decals printed without the Barracuda as the Barracuda was a late entry and when the decal was modified they may have missed that note.

This is the ECS decal, as you can see those details are correct.

I never put a lot of concern in the details on the drawing and saw it more generic. I have seen the decals placed over the ribs but yes typically they are placed within a panel.

My plan is not where the Assembly manual shows, that was already set.

The drawing is probably a carryover from the first gen A-body.

BTW good catch on the part number...

I have seen some without the "Valient Dart Barracuda"

Found it...
Good - part number
Good - no period
Bad - missing "Valient Dart Barracuda" reference

The OPs Labels are just like the one I have.

I have one like the one on the left, wrong number and the period.

My OEM sticker is like the one on the right.

This one is the closest match to OEM

But it is possible that there was a separate one for cudas?

They didn't leave off the Barracuda, they left off the whole line. The "VALIANT & DART" (the & is and error) is under the graphic, the "VALIANT - DART - BARRACUDA" line is missing.

Alan

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a fastback and notchback have different trunklids, and the underside is probably different, possibly conv is different as well.

The coupe and convertible use the same trunk lid and has a similar inside design as the Valiant and Dart.
I didn't mention the fastback as I have never seen a jack instruction on a 67 fastback (I looked back in the 80s)

I saw that it was the entire line and edited my post.

I did not see the "&", good catch

I wonder if the repos are purposefully making errors to skirt copy write laws?

FWIW my 67 fastback has the original trunk lid, no decal or remnants of anything.
Had no idea they did not come with one, thought it was just missed, car was shipped on a Friday.

Looks like we have two different known originals, Dana's and Steve's
Dana's looks like the ECS reproduction
Steve's, we need a better picture, but it looks like it doesn't have the VALIANT - DART - BARRACUDA line on the bottom.

Steve, what is the date code on your car?

I got my ECS decals today.

I scanned one and printed it on a clear paper (you remember for making overhead slides!)

I over laid my OEM and the copy and it is about as spot on as can be.

Blurry or double images is the overlay on the OEM, the OEM is wrinkled in spots which accounts for a lot of the inconsistencies
This is with the circled numbers lined up

all in all its the best repo I have seen. The imagery is not as crisp as the 58 year old OEM, but without them side by side you would be hard pressed to tell
