I currently have this listed on ebay. I would prefer to sell it to someone on this site, I would like opinions on what the value of this radio in this condition. It is in untested condition.

That is what I have for a starting bid, but it could be worth more to someone else as a private sale. I would then end the listing on ebay.

Does it work?

If it truly is untested, I'd say $5 - $10.
$100 easy, it's an am/fm, they aren't growing on trees. Even if it doesn't work it fills the hole cosmetically.
If it was untested, I wouldn't want to pay much. That 5-$10 would sound good to me. I paid $100 for the AM/FM in my Swinger. It works but not perfect. $250 is out of the ball park for one that is untested IMO

I've bought stuff from op before, no issues, good stuff. $5-10 is an insult for an am/fm working or not. You paid $100 for yours, how long ago? Look at the listing's here for am/fm. Show me one for $5-10.

Good thing I said if it was untested I wouldn't want to pay much and 5-10 sounds good to me.

Disagree.

"Untested" = "Not Working."

Not "Not Working until proven otherwise." Just "Not Working."

You show me that it works, or kinda works, it's a different story.

If he, or anyone, wants more than "$5-10" (maybe 20 on a good day), he needs to be able to say that it works, and back that up in case it arrives and it doesn't.

All it is now is a rusty workbench display item. $5-10.

Matter of opinion. If you wanted one you will pay for one. Thankfully we had our original 67 am/fm came with car. Dont ask what we paid to have it refurbed. I'll say/ask again, show me ONE listing for an am/fm for $10 lol.
Rusty??

Agreed, it's a matter of opinion. And some people will pay prices for things that make no sense at all.

As for professionally refurbishing an antique radio, that's a different story. Nobody did anything to this one except photograph it and post it on eBay. Didn't even "test" it.

Looks rusty to me. Matter of opinion maybe. Besides, it's a figure of speech.

How hard is it to test one of these old radios? Is it just two wires and and antenna, or is there more to it?

+12v, -12v, 2 speaker wires (usually 1 is -12v, too), antenna (or coat hanger).

And better if you're not in the basement, as reception stinks down there, especially without the ground plane of the car's body to help.

Realistically, most of these old radios jut need their electrolytic capacitors replaced, as they dry out / disintegrate / pop over time. That was all my AM radio needed.
But if anything is bad in the FM RF section, it will probably require realignment with an RF signal generator and an oscilloscope, which the average bear doesn't have.

But "not working" is very different than "working" in terms of value, especially because, even though most are a simple fix, some are very far from that, and you're buying "a pig in a poke."

The cheapest untested one I could find was $85. Tested ones range from 150 to 250 for one in "like new" condition. (there are exceptions to this price range based on the sellers) Would I pay $85 for an untested one? Heck no. It would take a matter of minutes to test one with a battery and a speaker. There are too many of them tested and in good working order all over the internet to take a chance on one that is unknown. If I needed a shell that was in spectacular condition to insert modern guts into...I would buy a pretty one that does not work.

I mean really, unless you're going for a 100% concours restoration, do something like this:
Yes the dash has to be cut, but do you know how EASY that is to fix? A kid could do it and you'd never know it had been cut. But look at those features. WHY wouldn't you want an upgrade like THAT? I have one in Vixen and I love it. I lost sleep when I cut the dash but now I think it's the best thing I ever did. I got the chrome face and it looks REALLY nice and REALLY retro. Almost like it cam there.

I list a bunch of stuff "untested " but on the cheap. Some things I'm just not smart enough! :mob: :BangHead:
