Im wanting to buy original 340 Exhaust manifolds 2863553 and 2863549 for my 68 Barracuda and they are hard to find and eye watering expensive.
So I'm wanting to know if anyone has used the TTI shorty headers TTI34025 in place of the cast iron manifolds and advise how they fit
Any good or bad stories?

Hmmm...

Scrolling down from that, the price might be similar to the manifolds. There may be some power increase but I'd guess less than 10 HP on a mild engine.

Do your homework on the shorties. I hear grumbling that they don''t fit.

If you go to their web site and read the installation instructions, it appears that automatics on the column and floor require less than easy bolt on fitment. I'm guessing that's why there are complaints. Lack of research. -2 cents

They fit great!

In the pic below you can see that the complete exhaust system is tucked up pretty good inside the frame rails, allowing me to drop the ride height for better handling.

No more burned hands , easy access to everything, no more scraping on driveways/low curbs etc..

Some power loss but more than made up for with great drivability.

TTI for sure the way to go if you want shorties.

If you're considering headers, which are not factory correct why not look into the large outlet Magnum manifolds? I believe they fit 67 and up A bodies. I know a lot of people have used them. I don't know details about whether they drop in or require mods, but most people would look at them and not know the difference.

Only the PS manifold really fits. I have seen people make the DS fit with shimming the motor and grinding on stuff, but seemed kind of tight even then and didn't feel like a clean way to do it. And it might be with a manual box only, I don't remember.

I would add that the Jeep manifold is a better fit on the PS than the truck one. It is drops down more and doesn't point at the firewall so much.

I like the combination of a DS freeflow (340/360) with a PS Magnum manifold from a Jeep. The DS 340 manifold is much easier (and cheaper) to find since it was functionally the same until at least '74 and I would bet that the early PS 340 manifold doesn't flow any better than the Magnum one.

Drawback is that if you want head pipes like from TTI, they only work with the DS. :)

If you DO get the shorty headers, notice they offer a connector pipe, - buy those as well!

I took me longer to fab the DS connector around and flat enuff to clear steering gear, than it takes to install a complete long tube set .

Thanks for all of the replies.
Would prefer to fit the reproductions if they are available and a good price, but the Shorty headers on Super-Cuda's build look fantastic.

I have the TTI shorty's with the down pipes and the TTI 2.5" kit on my Demon. Fit and look great.

I've got a 4 speed and PS. Probably a no go?

Those look like they fit pretty nice. They aren't equal length tubes but as long as you aren't a serious racer that's no biggie and they have to flow better than the stock HP manifolds. That's a nice looking system @Robzilla

Stock '68 - '70 340 manifolds have a 2 1/4 outlet. The shorties are probably 2 1/2 outlets.

From HOLLEY....

Shorty Headers

Don’t be misled by their name, shorty headers can have a great deal more primary tube length than the clumsy OE iron manifolds they replace. Some stock manifolds, like those on modern Mustangs, barely exit the flange before being turned and directed to the exhaust system, tight turns equal more restriction. Worse still, some engines run log-style exhaust manifolds where spent gases exit the head into a crude plenum before being pushed into the exhaust system. These designs can cause all kinds of flow and pressure challenges.

Some shorty headers have twisted tubes within their small footprint while others have runners that flow straight to the collector in a more traditional manner. Both types offer better than stock performance. Beyond any increase in primary pipe length, the performance improvements of shorty headers can be attributed to their tubular construction which provides flow benefits over OEM units. Typically, shorty headers generate better low to mid-range torque compared to stock offerings. Shorty headers are also quieter than the other designs. At the same time, shorty headers tend to be the easiest headers to install.
