Changing Tail Shaft Bushing

I’m rebuilding a 4-speed and I have a new bushing and transmission yoke. I’ll report back and give you what the OD of yoke and ID of the bushing are.
 
My other thoughts are maybe this bushing is either a mis-box, or Chinese junk. I don't totally remember the brand, but I thought it was ATP. Anyway, I do have another one of those inbound.
I would cal A&A in Indiana and ask them if theyve ever seen the issue, then buy a bushing from them to be sure it works. Maybe they ( or anyone here ) can provide you with an od measurement commonly found on the OEM yokes??

We may find that you need the driveshaft balance checked again.

Sorry, I just noticed that you’re dealing with a 904 which is different from the 727/833.
 
I couldn't find any relevant dimensions listed in the FSM or the online Torqueflight manuals I checked. I thought that was odd. So I checked a couple driveshaft shops, they are listing 1.558 as the OD for their 904 yokes. None listed any tolerances (+/- .001, etc.).

The vibration saga continues... which is what started this post, so it should be retitled "vibration".

I contacted both Denny's and Cope Transmissions. Both say 5 thousandths is acceptable. Denny's is asking me to remove the caps from the rear U-joint and look for some plastic thrust washers. I am at work and will check this and update the thread once I get home.
 

"Brand new drive shaft" I would pull the shaft and have it checked. Other than the new shaft did the car run OK previous, or is this a "new build?"

You got it man.... new build. However, the rear end was in a previous car of mine, and had no issues. So, yeah I'm looking at tailshaft, which seems to have been dispelled, and drive line.
 
Just for the heck of it put the tranny in neutral, unhook the rear of the driveshaft but don’t remove it from the transmission. Rotate the driveshaft 180 degrees and try it. I know it sounds crazy but I had a car vibrate after doing a U-joint and that fixed the problem. I also remember reading somewhere that you should match mark the driveshaft and rear end yoke.
 
I had the same symptoms in 1968 barracuda I bought that has a 727 in it. Trying to solve it, I put new tires (with balancing) on it and then replaced the tail shaft bushing but the problem continued. Vibration over about 40 mph. I had a new (slightly longer) drive shaft built using the old ends. Voila- problem solved. Apparently the slip joint did not have enough overlap. I also had a leak that did not go away but later I found the leak was actually coming from the neutral safety switch which had its seal gone bad.
 
I had the same problem and used this bushing with a Teflon liner. I replaced it the first time with the direct replacement bushing, but it still had the same play. After researching it, I found and bought this bushing and used the tool to install it in the car. It fit and had tighter tolerances. The problem was resolved.

I've got about 1-5/8" yoke exposed past the tailshaft and have had a vibe since the driveshaft was made. Nowadays some driveshaft shops say only 1" exposed.

I have that first yoke listed, it's 1.558. The original looking one that was on the driveshaft is 1.556. Neither one fits snugly into the trans.
