I needed a Piston Ring Squaring Tool to do the file fit on the new rings in my 440/512 engine.

So, I "Home-Brewed" this tool to square the rings in the bores.

I used my old Snap On 4 Way Bolt Puller and 3 5/16" X 1" bolts, 5/16" flat washers and 3 5/16" x 1" coupler nuts.

This positions and squares the rings the recommended 1" down in the bores and works great..

Nice work. Ya, domed pistons don't work.

So just a ring replacement ?. Hone the bores only ? How did you measure the actual bore diameter for the ring size ?
The worn bores won't be round , looks like you had a pretty high ring ridge in the bores.
So using some moly rings ?
Kooks like some quality work was done to this block in the past.

Ran a hone through the bores... Engine had 7 miles on it... Had a Catastrophic oil pressure failure last winter in cold temps. Still not sure of the cause. Caught it on a data log before any severe damage. This is basically a tear down, very good clean up, new main and rod bearings and rings.

Glad you checked the ring gaps. By the look of the one in the bore they’re tight!

.020 per the manufactures chart.
Is this on your 512? 4.375 bore? .020 would be just under .005xbore and in my world that’s tight. I don’t even set NA stuff up that tight. But I know lots of people do.
