Outrageous shipping fee from Mancini Racing

-
Just like the story of a burger franchise competitor offering 1/3 lb burgers, that didn`t succeed because 1/4 lb. burgers are bigger, right? lol math is hard.

Sadly the education system is failing when learning takes a backseat to 'likes'. That's a subject for a whole other thread.

Summit order was more than $109 - their threshold for free shipping. Just for giggles, the shipment came in two 50 lb boxes - so it wasn't light and it wasn't cheap to ship.

Mancini order (copy from the invoice):

MRE AR208 COIL BRACKET, SINGLE BOLT HOLD DOWN EA 1.00 0.00 1.00 $20.99 ............ $20.99

<PAYMENT> 09/08/2025 - $312.78 - xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ......................................................... ($312.78)
Ok that's great, but what would the total be for the same parts from Summit incl the Free Shipping? Apples to Apples comparison.
$312.78 from Mancini
??? from Summit

It's a handling fee. I've had things take over an hour to gather everything, pack, label, etc. Mancini employees don't work for free. Now some places use the shipping dept as a profit center, although slim.
Jims auto was horrible for this type of excessive shipping charges and broomhilda answering the phones... OOOF Year one, classic are another pair that run up the charges.

Same as the part is being sold, if it isn't sold by X date - NO SHIPPING, it's going in the trash, not taking it with me. The number of I'll pay for shipping since you are tossing it away. I don't think so. :)

One of my favorites of all time was a customer that wanted something from me. Another vendor had a similar item. MY price was $20 less with about $12 shipping, they bought from the other person because they got free shipping. Paid $8 more for an inferior item. Hey, shipping was free and the swung the scales. Math is hard.
That's fine if it is. They should make it CLEAR there IS a handling fee before you pull the trigger.

I'm sure we all appreciate the good vendors that sell quality parts.

They say, "Here's your order total and, oh by the way, we'll add shipping & handling later when we get the order together." Wonder what they'd do if I asked them to hold the order, send me the box dimensions/weight, and I'll send them the prepaid shipping label from Pirateship like I've done buying cylinder heads?

THAT is some funny stuff.
We always complain about shipping costs and most of the time we have legitimate complaints. I've been looking at headlight adjuster hardware for a 72 Duster. Several ebay stores offer free shipping for what is about $11 in parts. One vendor had a shipping price almost $10 for stuff that can fit in a thin envelope. I don't begrudge a business for making money but come on...be reasonable about it. Do these idiots think I won't look at other vendors and choose the deal with free shipping?

Ok, I'm back. Wifey dragged me out to the late showing of Downton Abbey. You know, "Happy wife, happy life", so... Anyway, back to the assignment. Here's the Mancini list with the Summit price in parenthesis :

MRE AR208 COIL BRACKET, SINGLE BOLT HOLD DOWN ............ $20.99 ($39.95)
MOP P4286728 IGNITION COIL - BRACKET ............ $15.99 ($11.99)
MRE P4349279 POLISHED SS B/RB HOLD DOWN CLAMP ............ $26.99 ($29.99)
MRE 72670-B BLACK WIRE SET, HEMI NON HEI ........ $149.99 ($91.99)
CWS FC-CP UMP HP COIL ............ $34.99 ($34.99)
MOPAR OE OIL FILLED CYLINDER FOR POINTS STYLE IGNITION

TOTAL PARTS (5) ...................................................................................................... $274.78 ($208.90)

At Summit, when the exact part wasn't available, I went with the part/price that was closest in style & price to the Mancini part. The biggest difference cost wise were the Mancini plug wires at $149.99 vs the Summit wires at $91.99 - the wires are the same except the Mancini wires are black and the Summit wires are blue resulting in a $58 difference. So not only was Summit less expensive overall but they would have shipped these five items for free vs the $38.27 Mancini 'Freight' fee. So, in conclusion, I spent a few pennies over $96 more than I should have if I were a smarter shopper. Dang it!

Thinking of it, the last item I ordered from them, the shipping/handling was more than the item.
They charged me way to much later for shipping determined later. That's why the last parts I bought there was the last parts I bought there.

I'm sure we all appreciate the good vendors that sell quality parts.

On the Bag the prices for the exact same thing are all over the place. I like the feature that shows "Sort: Price + shipping: lowest first". Does that make me a cheapskate?

If the OP is upset at the cost of shipping that's all that matters. Yall can argue it all day long, but his opinion is all that matters here.

Looking at the prices, apart from the plug wires (and if you want black then blue is obviously no good so you have to pay the extra), Mancini's prices look pretty good.

Imagine you were just buying a Coil Bracket. $21 Mancini vs $40 Summit.
The shipping then evens everything out.

I think it's a case of shopping around depending on what parts you need and not just write off a particular vendor because of one instance where you got hosed.

Relevant or not.....where things are shipped, can really change shipping costs. It always cost more, the farther stuff goes. I always ask where someone lives, before determining
what costs will be, before sending a pkg. It cost me twice as much to send something to AZ, as IN.

Mancini is a mom and pop, compared to Jegs and Summit. I'm sure they pay higher rates. Notice the 100% rise for free shipping with the big guys?
I live about 15-20 minutes from Mancini Racing. A couple good guys work there, but I bat about 20% of them having something I need.

Isn't freight different/more than just plain shipping?
The term freight is used 4 times.
Summit has freight only on large items.

PayPal info is confusing, do they just charge you shipping and you find out after?

From Mancini website:

Shipping Charges Information

Freight Charges: Mancini Racing does charge for shipping. We are unable to determine freight costs before processing your order. .....Rates are determined by weight, box size and distance. Please make a note in the comments box if you would like a freight quote before processing your order.
PayPal customers, PLEASE NOTE - We will send a freight cost and sales tax, if applicable invoice when your order is ready to ship. ALSO PayPal orders CANNOT BE SHIPPED NEXT DAY, 2 Day or 3 Day AIR due to funds needing to be collected in full at time of shipment. Credit Cards will speed up shipping times

I don't think Mancini sells anything that is exclusively theirs, and apparently they don't buy in bulk to offer a lower price.

I've received many items with a Mancini sticker over a PST label.

Case in point, my torsion bars.
PST shipped to my door for $379.
Mancini want $399 + shipping, and they wanted $400 when I was staring them in the face.

Hello Everyone.
I'd be happy to address the comments of the shipping rates. feel free to email me at daver@manciniracing.com and i will look at the issues. All i would need is the invoice number. i do not partake in forums often unless i have a reason. With emails there is no time differences as long as you get a reply.

in fairness,
other larger companies charge way more for package and handling and still charge above that. they build in weights to there catalog to give you that, We calculate and scale every package to get the rate. We do use a broker to try to get the best rate possible between fedex, ups, usps, we do not use any other brokers ie pirate ship because of system integrations. would we take a label sure, but that has to be known upfront and we have for other customers that have a shipping account. There will always be a cheaper way to do things. We are a small company since 1973 and do not have the amazon or summit shipping contracts to be able to offer free shipping. its all an expense at the end of the day.

With any inventory it cycles and yes you may call or place an order online as we show it. But not knowing what orders are in front of yours we cannot tell you that until we pick. Does summit, classic, year one run out of parts, absolutely. Supply chain or parts is getting tight and prices are going to continue to rise as with shipping costs. We do our best to try to mitigate these issues.

As for product pricing we match summit on ALL main line brand products to be competitive in pricing to get you the best pricing.

Appreciate you all as customers and take this as constructive points to work on.

again, feel free to email me at daver@manciniracing.com

I only buy from Mancini IF I have zero options left. And usually the last options before Mancini are make it myself or go without.

They suck. When you look at what Pirate ship charges you can see what a ripoff these people are. Usually they are at least half of what regular USPS, UPS or FedEx charges.

It’s a scam.

What about the issue of not knowing shipping costs until someone orders ? Does a person have to commit to making an order before their shipping cost is known ?

Nope. I ask for shipping before I get off the phone. I don’t accept call backs or any of that crap. They either tell me the shipping before I get off the phone or I kill the order.

What’s stupid is they say I have to work on shipping. How does that work. Most of the time if you buy online you know the shipping before you check out.

Mancini sucks.

That's what I'm asking Mancini. Does a person know the shipping costs before they place the order and if they don't agree to the shipping costs do they then have to cancel the order to not get billed ?

Im not sure anymore. I think it’s been at least a decade since I bought anything from them.

Summit got to be the BIGGEST because of their customer service. From the time I was a little whippersnapper looking into their little storefront in downtown Akron, OH, to their move outside the city to a little warehouse to a bigger warehouse then to their Superstore(s), they kept growing but have always maintained a customer-centric attitude.

They clearly empower their employees to make decisions and put the customer first. This empowerment starts at the top. I wish I could talk to their CEO and congratulate him/her on the culture they built in the company.

Now if we're ranting on shipping, let's bring Eastwood into the mix! Talk about SLOW to ship and exorbitant fees, that's Eastwood. I buy very little from them simply due to that alone. They have lots I would like to get but not paying those kind of fees and waiting that long.
Example: I placed an order from Summit and one from Eastwood this past Tuesday night. All items showed as being in stock. So the companies would have seen the order Wed morning. Summit shipped separate boxes from Ohio and Georgia. Both shipments are here as of today. Got a note from Eastwood (which is in PA) yesterday that the part had just shipped! Tracking showed the carrier still didn't have it. And that is another example why Summit gets 98% of my business!!

No, as it states at the time of check out it is calced at the end when boxed and scaled, if you want to know shipping before hand. put in a comment that you want a shipping quote first. nothing is charged up front. Then if you choose to decline, then we void and cancel the order.

I have no problem paying for shipping and handling cost for parts from smaller vendors, I'm glad they're still around.
Call Summit and ask them which cam to run in your Mopar or anything else related to Mopar.
