Did anybody saw this important video of Joe Zolper

I liked Darts, Dusters and Chargers when they were cheap to buy and junkyards had lots of them to pick for parts.
I don’t look at these cars as investments.

I have my own "heartbroken" story about promising a car at graduation. Gold plated keys and all. A very hard lesson learned. I have had the same veiwpoint as Zopler since 2018. I blamed the little feller or little pecker for a long time. Finally accepted that she had made her own WRONG decisions. We can steer a vehicle but we cant steer another person. Foolish to think otherwise and futile to try. I truely doubt a solid gold bar would have changed anything. Dont have such to offer. Grandpa tried to gift what he cherished almost as much as her. He's older and much more hard hearted today. I wish I had heard Zoplers input back in 2006 before my wrong decision. Carry on

Earlier this year I visited the Petersen museum in Los Angeles. There was a section there featuring pre war cars. I know there are people that like them but I have no interest in them at all. Our big car museum in Sacramento also has similar era cars and I feel the same way about seeing them. At some point it occurred to me that the old timers liked those cars and they are fading away. Further, my generation will likely follow in similar fashion like Joe said in that video but it is either arrogance or opinion that the muscle car era cars were different. I think while popularity will fade, it may not lose popularity like the pre 1950s cars will.

I love my car. I often open the garage door and have a quick look when I'm checking to make sure doors are locked before bed.

I already have more into it than I'll ever get out of it and it's not that nice yet. I'm enjoying the hell out it and if my son doesn't want it, when I'm really old. I'll just sell it for whatever someone will pay and give it to my son. It's not going to be enough to go to Cabo with, lol.

Many kids in their 20's were so brainwashed at school that these older vehicles are "bad/dangerous/destroying the planet", & worse, all automobiles are,.......especially ICE powered ones. When My Nephew & Niece were at the Folk's place ~20yrs. ago, they called Pop's '76 3/4ton GMC 4×4 "Grandpap's rusty truck",.....of course the original white painted front bumper showed every little bit of rust that popped up. He purchased it new, and it is only in the 60K's on the dial, it gets used when needed and that's about it. I told Him when it passed from Grandpap to Me, He'd be next to own it....as I didn't have any chillens of My own.........His response was.."That wouldn't be very good for the environment...".......at like 6 years old,.....I'd like to ask the people poisoning His brain if they thought that throwing away a perfectly running truck, the energy to scrap it, part it, haul & recycle it, and the energy & raw materials/consumables/chemicals/ to manufacture a new 3/4ton....then buy & trade for a new one every 5-10years is better for the planet........wtf.
The reality is, it's up to Us to invite younger generations into the hobby, & point out the virtues of doing something hands on, and enjoying the results. Instead of gaming in the basement with strangers all evening....

These old relics aren't High tech enough for any younger generations. No AC, power windows ,or steering and brakes touch screen. Crappy ride, Gas milage sucks . Everything we like they hate !

That's a fact, while it does have power steering & brakes, no A/C, no radio, rock-hard vinyl bench, granny gear 4spd., 4.10gears, black cab, Bronco Billy ride..........lol...
My Neighbor & I switched out driving every tankful fillup, I bumped the timing 3° & added a clutch fan, We went from SW PA to El Reno OK to get My '64 GT 'vert, & came back....best of 14mpg on the downhill side of WV on the way out...but that's 2mpg better than B4 the timing & fan changes!!! I did the math & even if I had to switch to 'Silver' grade it would've saved a good bit of $$$..

All I saw was some guy throwing out a bunch of opinions. Some may be right, some may not. Sounds more like a blowhard to me.

Joe kept saying how people are always calling him to offload some classic car.
Maybe he does get calls like that, maybe not.
Does anyone call to tell him that they have a friend that inherited a car and that they are going to finish and keep it?
Of course not. Why would anyone call him to say that? They wouldn't.
He has formed a sour opinion because all he hears is one side of the deal.
Surely there are unreported instances of an old timer passing and his kids getting the car and keeping it in the family.
That doesn't fit his rant though.

About a touch screen. I'm in the passenger's seat of new Camry.... So new that the driver doesn't know the buttons either. I get the AC settings good. I get radio on a channel but could not touch the dang volume up. I gave up. A minute later I glaced at again. Lo and behold, a dang kanob. Why great grand dads Packard had one of those. LMAO. Did they run out of places to touch or did we not get enough fingers? This is why we can't use phone behind the wheel. The car is too complicated. This copilot needs much more training to be efficient. Imagine a day when a car sings a few lines of Platters - You've Got The Magic Touch.

Because if You're driving, You can find the knob & turn the volume w/o looking, if it doesn't have controls on the steering wheel or the wheel's out of position. Hopefully as the owner, one would only have to find it once, lol.....

Yep. I told her she needed to practice all those buttons while parked. Imagine original Star Trek. Uhura jumps in navigator station chair and starts pushing buttons. Stars on the big screen rush left and right. Anyone standing falls toward walls. She's says, "oops, sorry".
Just hold on to the wheel Lucille, I'll finger it out over here.

I would also say he is wrong on the street rod and tri 5 chevy issues.

They are still around and nice ones are expensive.

Just not as many of them being built or in circulation.

Captain Kirk; "Careful, if You keep that up, We might hit Uranus!!!"
Uhura; * eyes light up, starts hitting random keys more frantically*

Joe is a little harsh but what he says is true. My cars are all gone now. I did buy a pretty rough roller to use up all my spare parts and give me something to do during the long winter months for a few years. It will be sold when done and i'll probably pick up a decent "more door" to drive to cruz nights to see the guys. It won't be a problem or worth much when i check out.

So what do we take from this...... bloke talking sounds like a bell end
-If you cant figure out if your kids are into cars or not then do you even know them
-Yea no one wants to be handed down a bunch of half finished rust piles that u think are worth something

I was handed down 350m2 of cars and parts......... what did i do. I kept the sentimental cars, run my company from the factory and sold/gave all the race parts to his friends knowing they will be put to use. I also am having one of the race cars finished. I am not old either but dad knew i am a car nut and it was all left to me.

As for kids not into muscle cars...... multiple reasons its a rich mans game jesus my duster will have 40-60k in the body and maybe 30k in parts etc etc, no kid can afford that. Its also a lot harder to work on your own cars, stricter road rules and regs as well as mum and dads not wanting their garage dirtied up with a project etc. And why would u drive an old pos when you can buy a 20 year old modern car with an ls that will wipe the floor with said muscle car. Rember when you were young would you want an old 1940 something car...... no. Well the time frame has simply moved.

Also the car community is very toxic, in Australia the mopar crowd are nown for being one eyes and pain in the asses. Look at the tears people have if you ls swap a mopar or god forbid put a reverse cowel on it.
Does not inspire younger guys to get involved

My story, well only just a glimpse.
My youngest daughter was born in 1975. She worked after school and Sat. at the local small town DQ (Dairy Queen, yes still in business). She turned 16 and bought her own first car, her $$, SHE found it with a second engine, an old Lebaron Vert. She paid for it, paid the gas, and took it to a mechanic buddy when it broke down ( often). It had 375,000 showning when it finally gave up the ghost and her mother sold it to a family friend as a "collectable"! He later "offerred" it to me for a $R1000 Just wanted hios $ back! ha! :BangHead:

Fast forward. Her son, oldest grandchild born in 2001 worked in HS for a week or two till it interferred with football practice. Lasty of that. He started college 150 miles from home, needs something to drive. I had picked up a late 80s 1/2 ton Dodge pickup with a slant and 4 spped OD. All it needed was replace the slave cylinder. $1000 bought it. Good running/driving old truck. I "give" it to him, he lived 6 hours away, but he turns it down, would not be cool and gets "bad" mileage. Daughter gives him her daily a throw away foreign jelly bean car. She bums a ride to work I find out later. One month later, it fries the trans and not cost effect to fix it. BUT, I had already "sold" the pickup to a car buddy that hiss old dad really wanted the truck. $600. All he could really afford. He was so happy he cried. So "the kid" is on foot! He gets a spot (scholarship) on that college football team as a walk one, kicker. He does graduate with a degree in petroleum engineering, student debt, gets a job with an oil co. for a few years, now does day trading and getting married next month.

Not sure what old car he drives today! I give a chit????? Dunno. But a good kid. Best of luck!!! I do know he could care ;less about a "classic" car.

For whatever reason, people have blinders on about their kids.
I had a friend that bought all sorts of stuff "for his daughter" even though some of it was clearly for him.

Me- "what's that_______" over there? (fill in the blank)

Him- "That?, Oh that's my daughters computer".

"That?, oh that's my daughters gaming console".

"That?, oh that's my daughters guitar".

Whatever dude. Seems like you're fooling yourself.

Agreed. Popularity will fade but 60s/70s era muscle cars are still widely thought of as the best looking cars. Even by people who wouldn't necessarily own one.

I'll drive my car past a group of kids walking down the street and when I look in the mirror, there's always one kid that snaps his head around to check it out while the rest of them don't give a ****. That kid's got what we've got.

I think he's fulla ****. All the way around. He who protesteth too much.........(is usually fulla ****).

I think @abodyjoe pretty much nailed it about the guy in the video. He seems to have anger issues. He comes across that way in about every video he puts out. He even acted that way to a little lesser degree when he was on the TV show Garage Squad, that got cancelled. His message, which has a lot of truth to it kind of gets lost in the delivery. I don't have kids, or nieces or nephews who would give a crap about my stuff. My plan is, to leave it to guys a few decades behind me in life who DO like old cars, but are right in the middle of their most productive time in life. They actually do have the money to buy old cars, but won't do it because they want the security of paying their home off first. The guys I have in mind are people I used to work with before I retired a few years ago. It will all work out, so none of this really worries me. :)
