Stop in for a cup of coffee

We are in the market for a new computer because of Win 11. Looking around not much locally available in desktop versions, it's either gaming computers or all in one laptop type. Also lots of them advertise "AI already built in", don't think I want that!
Look at Amazon warehouse refurbished... you can find earlier models with the setup you want

Well I made it to the airport safely with my terrible driver buddy. They overlooked my overweight bags. Very light traffic or crowds here. Breezed right through check-in and security. Now I have to kill a couple of hours before I board the plane to head out to my new AO

My nephew is into the whole IT thing, and he thinks that Ma & Pa (if you will) computers stores may become common, as people push back against AI and request to have custom, bespoke computers built for them. Personally I like the idea (and I have an "in", thankfully), but I'll believe it when I see it.

Right before school began was a good time to buy one. Next opertunity to get a good deal will be on black Friday.
You wouldn't be obligated to use AI. I have used it only twice.
I ran a toshiba laptop with broken plasma screen for a few years. Opened it just far enough to get a finger to its start button. It did have a VGA port for my monitor. Wireless keyboard and mouse had a thingy to put in a USB port. Big homemade tower machine was retired. That machine ran so good that I bought another identical of ebay and moved parts from one to the other. Never once considered going back to the tower. Never missed its noise for sure.
We learned the hard lesson that HP does ship their seconds/rework to Walmart. I strongly advise in person purchase from Best Buy or the like. Yes they get a little more but i dont know if anyone beats their customer service.

Agreed. They went to Windoze 11 here at the office about a year ago, and as far as I can tell, the only people who like it are the IT contractors.
Well it isn't the first version of Win that bombs if it does. I don't think this computer can/should be upgraded, doing it for obvious security reasons and hope for better performance although I know my biggest PIA with my setup is using Wi-fi and not having a cable internet connection

Yup! Right there, with that whole security thing, they "got you"! It's the 21st century version of planned obsolescence. (Bastards!)

We have three "offline" (or air gap) computers at home that still run just fine, and one of which runs on XP...

I have an XP at work that I cannot hook into the network but it's my go to for a lot of programs I need when cabling directly into equipment. IT bubbas don't know I have it or they would want it lol!

Constant and losing battle where cybersecurity trumps usability. So much useless IT .... but it's secure

I know all about that! We have some laptops that still run XP so we can plug into older HVAC equipment controls (all of the XP emulation software we've tried sucks!), and each time we hand one of them to our Techs we tell them to treat it like a baby.
