I also recall seeing that UV light will diminish the browning effect.

My 35 year old Goodyear Polyglas I took off the Bird are still WHITE ! The new ones I bought this Spring are bright white. The new T/A's on the Wife's Formula S are BROWN, as are every other set of BF's in the house. I'd never buy them, they just happened to come on the vehicles we bought. The Cooper Cobra's (made by Goodyear) on my 64 are 5 or 6 years old and are WHITE...

My highschool buddy had a Monte Carlo with BF's on it back in '78. They turned Brown a few weeks after he cleaned the Blue coating off... tire marker after that! Nothing has changed in almost 50 years.. The Goodyears I recently took off are 50 years old and are still white, as is the Tiger Paw that reside in the trunk for over 50 years. The fact that BFG hasn't rectified this issue in Forever is shameful at best.

They have rectified it... they say its not a problem, so the problem doesn't exist!

My 7 year old Cooper Cobras white letters clean up with any of the OTC tire washes.
My 7 year old BFG's do not. :mob: I scrubbed them both with 2 or 3 different products and methods.. I took a Scotchbrite pad on a die grinder to get the "TA" white again. The brown comes back in weeks.

Mike - give the acetone a try and see what you think. Here's mine after that (car is in dark garage so the letters are actually whiter than they appear in this pic).

I wish I would have bought Cooper.
Like I mentioned in my post, I had dealer replace original set of tires after about 30 days because of white letters turning brown.
Second set of replacement tires are also turning brown.
I feel I shouldn't have to continually scrub the tires to keep letters white on $1000.00 tires that are a few months old!

Exactly!

There was a spell about 6 years ago where this was terrible. The 205's we put on the Duster constantly turn brown in about 6 months. A few years earlier the ones on the Coronet never had a hint of brown. Since the Duster I have put them on 3 more restorations and so far they have not turned as brown as the Duster but they take some maintenance to keep them nice and white.

I bought 14's and 15's at the same time. The 14's on the front never did turn brown, Noting but issues with the 255/60-15's on the rear. I tried many different whitewall tire cleaners. No good. I had to grind the letter surface to get them white and they would turn brown within a month.

Mike - have you tried the acetone?

Take a wheel off and put it white letters up in direct sunlight for a couple days and then compare to one that was not in direct sunlight and see if that makes a difference. I cant find it but I recall seeing an FAQ from BFG about UV turning the brown white again

When I spend too much time in the sun I don't get whiter, but red and sore!!!

I did not find this did much.

My Cooper cobras are doing the same thing, after a year old they started turning brown.

might be a new issue for Cooper. my 7-8 year old Cobras get super white with typical tire cleaners

The old Cooper Cobras that were on my car when I bought it had turned a little brown. The tires were almost 10 years old but still in great shape and soft, didn't appear to have been driven much. I didn't attempt to get them white. Replaced with BFGs.

For as much work as guys are doing trying to scrub these letters back to white, it's probably faster and easier to hit them with a white tire marker occasionally. The raised letters in combination with a wide-tipped tire marker make application quick and easy with even coverage. I painted mine when I got them new, they're still bright white months later with no touch-up. I used this paint pen: Amazon Sign-In

Its just something to consider if you've already got BFGs or you otherwise like them. I'll admit I went with BFGs for that period correct "Day Two" look that I wouldn't get from a more modern tire.
