Made my first set of 65 Dart B/U lenses

I don't think I understand the point of this optic-free/window-clear reverse lens, purple bulbs, etc. Those optical facets are in the original for a good and necessary reason. If I were repurposing that compartment as a turn signal, I'd make a new lens out of the diamond-stippled acrylic diffuser material found in office ceiling lights everywhere, and I'd use a little-known 35w amber bulb to push enough light to make the little "island" turn signal plenty visible in the middle of the "red sea" brake light.

For a next trick, how 'bout high-intensity yellow LEDs behind the outboard red outer lens so when you put on the turn signal you get amber light. Appropriate control circuitry so if you're stepping on the brake at the same time, the outboard brake light operation is suspended on the signalling side until the turn signal is switched off (that's not hard to manage; I have the control circuit on shelf). Dim red tail operation carries on, not affected by any of this.
I am not making the B/U lens area into a turn signal, it will still be a B/U light and I just might use any color I decide on as to alert that I am backing up, they never were any good for actually illuminating to see while backing up anyway, hence my #19 post, but the office light cover idea is brilliant, never thought of that, stay tuned may give it a go.

That's an effective way to cause a crash and have your insurance claim denied. Color is one of the ways car lights convey their message, which needs to be unambiguous. We don't get to pick random colors because we think purple back-up lights or green brake lights would be cool.

They're not required to be. It's nice when they do, but the regs are written such that the main function of the backup light is to warn others that you're reversing.

NO **** that is what I said, my B/U lights are to warn stupid people I am reversing as you call it and I don't reverse on a city street or highway, and I am well aware of the RCW code for Washington State and if you have colored B/U lights on while you are driving you are an idiot, no law what color they are in your driveway or a parking lot, in this state you also can't have under car lighting on while driving on the road but no rules for private property like when at a car show or cruise in, which are in parking lot or Fairgrounds, and I would not change colors on my newer daily driver just my 60 year old show car and weekend driver hot rod, not sure you understand the COOL factor and that's okay. But if I am at the grocery store backing out of my parking spot any color in that little area on my 65 Dart taillight will let the non attention paying stupid drivers know that I am as you call it "reversing" and that is all I care about and being a little different than everyone else. And that is why my Avatar says It's F*#$ed being the same age as old people. And my son in law is a Washington State Trooper (17yrs) and so is my Nephew. And my Daughter is a very high up Insurance claims team manager for Pemco, So tell me more that you think I don't know

Couldn’t someone simply scan the old ones and then use a 3D printer to produce semi-decent copies?

And then NOT sell them here, of course……

(Hey, Mike! We need a pot stirrer emoji!)

If you are talking about me, not stirring the pot just stating what I am doing and some of my ideas, and frankly don't care to hear crap unless you got something better I can build on and have the ability to make something in the first place

And where in the hell did you come up with green taillights, I never said once anything about that ridiculous idea

Naw, no need; you're doin' a fine job of that all on your own.
