Mopowers' 66 Dart Build

Believe me, when he gets on it the height will be just right.
I has a friend years ago who was a dyed in the WOOL Ford guy. He was an old retired Ford engineer and also retired from Georgia Power. He had a LOT of rare Fords in his back yard in Macon. He had so many cars the city made him erect...I said erect...lol...an eight foot fence all around the back yard so the neighbors couldn't see the cars. One of them was a 69 Mach1 with a SCJ 428, shaker hood and 4 speed. The car at the time has less than 40K on the clock. Had been sitting long enough it needed a little work to get it back running. So me and some of the guys he knew from hangin out with us went over one weekend and got that bad boy running. He took us all for a ride. All seven of us piled in it. It was still on Firestone Wide Oval bias ply tires. We went around the neighborhood and git it up to temp good and he came back in front of the house and says "all you punks get wheels around right hand turns like pussies, here's how you do a burnout" and dropped the clutch and romped it. It felt like that thing stood up a foot on all four corners, but it baked those rotten *** tires to pieces. There were chunks of rubber in the road. I don't know where that car is now, but a guy none of us hung out with went by there and talked him out of it cheap. He promised him that he would keep it forever and restore it. Two weeks after he bought it, he cleaned it up and flipped it for big money. Nobody ever liked that guy.

It's been a while on this one. I got the fuel lines plumbed with ptfe line and got it insured and registered. It runs great for a stock 7.something to 1 compression 400.

like some others i prefer a little more height, lol. in the pics your rear shocks look to only have about an inch of compression travel left but the gap from axle to bump stops looks like 3 inches or more. unless your neighbourhood has no potholes or speed bumps the shocks won't last long if they bottom out regularly. at ride height shocks should 1/3 compressed with 2/3 compression travel left. even if you change the leaf's to lift the ride height the shocks will still bottom before the axle meets the bump stops. extending the lower shock mounts down would help though.
neil.
ps i love the car and i bet changing plugs is a breeze, lol.

Over the winter, I'm going to pull out my Lunati solid to make a roller cam swap.

If you are at all worried about wiping a cam, a known good used cam with matching lifters and springs is a huge relief! Sens me a PM or text me to let me know what you think.
In 2020, I built a 383 with a used 280/474 from a FBBO member. It had matching lifters and it has been fine. This allows you to start it up and forego the nervewracking break in anxiety.
Thanks! That's a little more duration than what I was thinking, but I'll definitely keep that in mind! I appreciate it.

Great catch! That's on the list to address as well. I bought standard height shocks, but when I relocated the springs it shortened the distance between the upper and lower shock mounts quite a bit. Once I replace the rear spring segments with std height pieces, I'll measure for new shocks.

New std height rear leaf segments are on the way. Summit's having them drop shipped from Calvert Racing and they should be here Friday. At least now I'll have options.

Booo LOL

I'd space the bump stop off the frame. See if Calvert had a shorter shock. I like the low look. Helps with hook too.

Gotta make it how you want it. :)

Hey now, let's just see how it turns out. Haha!

They do have a shorter shock that'll work. They also make rear spring segments in 1/2" ride height increments (-1, -.5, stock height, +.5, +1, etc...) I didn't realize that. The guy I talked to even said they'll allow one free exchange for a different height set if it's within 6 months.
