Is this normal, or am I really that sick?

For me I am getting older so sometimes Im in a hurry but mostly not. I remember when I was younger life was a rush everywhere time time time thing, now I enjoy driving the speed limit taking in the sights. I do still enjoy V8 power and it can be old school 250- 325 horse range and for me thats fine on the street. It is at the cost of v8 gas mileage also so economy factors in I can see how a slant 6 would be a well rounded between performance and economical expeience. People forget how the big performance engines drank gas but gas was cheap and stopping for gas every other day was just part of it.

Nothing wrong with liking slow cars. I actually think they last longer, because they lack the power to break anything.

Im firmly in the slow lane of this argument. I love ripping up tires as much as the next guy but Ive never felt more at peace than when just cruising. I drive a mildly warmed up slant to keep up on the highway mainly becuase evryone out here in southern California thinks its a demo derby.

One more question for slant six owners. How many of you have a slant six with the heat shield over the oil pump and distributor like the very greasy one in this photo? This is the only slant six that I've ever owned that came from the factory with one. Very stock 1974 Duster. Anyone? Sorry for the low quality photo.

This is meant to be a splash shield. My 1966 Dart had one original. I removed it when I rebuilt the motor as I'm not sure how long I will stay with a distributor.

I can't say if all slants came with one from the factory. Many have been removed for access to other things and never put back on. Also many have been broken off.

Underpowered vehicles aren't really my thing but I don't think you're weird for enjoying yours. If I was going to own a "slow" car it would probably be an 80s-90s Mercedes diesel; slow but excellent fuel economy for its size, great build quality and comfy. If I did get a slant-6 car it would definitely be an earlier A-body with manual transmission but I think eventually I'd swap a 318 into it. Who knows I'm only in my 30s, people say you slow down when you get older but my grandpa (who I'm a spitting image of) was a speed demon all the way up until he couldn't drive anymore lol. My dad drives with a feather-foot and it always drove me nuts lol.
