Any interest...?

As you can see from the original shots posted up, the header has been removed. I took this off last fall and began work on it. There was a hole in the fiberglass under the driver's marker and a couple of cracks. I've been working on it steadily. Once it's ready for prime I'll have some pics of it.

teardown so far. After a few days worth of work.

The interior is mostly gone. I've left the door panels in place for now for operating the windows easily. I want to keep the car rolling so as not to take up the bay since I'm trying to get back into building cars for a living. Got a few customers out there spreading the word for me as well as a few folks who want paint work done. For that reason the dash and column will also stay in until it's on the rotisserie.

Got some rot, but that's not unexpected.

Left rocker panel under the rear door.

And above the rocker on the floor board, just inside.

my dippy was the same year, but red all over, the only thing that drove me nuts on that car was the red gut, it was my daily driver for years, I think I traded it for a ramcharger, can't wait to see this one done, keep the pics and up dates coming.

Love the pics and the post. I have an 88 with a 318 and zero rust (and I'm in Nova Scotia LOL). Keep up the great work, I hope to get mine painted next month.

I parted out an 80 Cordoba that had the factory duals on it - the ones where the driver's side tailpipe crossed in back of the gas tank and routed out the driver's side. Still have the set-up if there's any interest in it.

These cars handle real good =P~ I had one just like yours that was a police detective's car
It still had all the whirring for the flashing head light and the hole in the drivers side for the spot light, That Diplomat would scream for a 318, dual points and dual caliper brakes 8)
I owned it for two days and got pulled over :-D no tag'e and just a bill of sale.
They was cool and let everything go because I was still legal with insurance
Night watchmen Blue and would handle the gravel roads like a modified car.
Keep up the good work, I like the wheel color you picked out my self 8)8)

Wow! I hadn't checked in on my own thread in a couple of days and come back and there's a ton of interest. Keep looking. The hood build is gonna start this week. (Hopefully!)

Can't wait to drive this one. It's been a long time coming to be able to get it to even this stage.

My goal is to have this one painted before the end of summer, depending on real work load in the shop.

Dartman, I have to say that I have never seen that particular exhaust set up. Got pics? I'm curious.

Cool project ! Here is my old Diplomat.

Sweet pic and thanks for the comment. I was beginning to think that there wasn't interest in an M-body build. :-D

What size are them there cop wheels?

Them cop wheels are factory 15"x7", but Stockton is making them in 16." When it's time that's the route I'll be going for tire selection.

This one handles well since Pop did some mods to it. The original leafs sagged badly. Pop got tired of it and built a set of his own making, eliminated the big rubber bushing in the front eyelet and isolators. My wife used to drive this car as her daily. She would flat out leave me on windy, twisty roads without ever touching the brake.

The wheel color is actually the paint code which corresponds to the trim code for the top. Which is what's driving me nutty. The top is getting replaced. I need to find something in the original trim code or go with something different (a shade lighter or a shade darker) and mix a paint which will match. That paint color is going to be important later down the road.

Robert I have a bunch of clean F body steel around so let me know if you need any of the pieces that crossover. I believe rocker sections, trunk and floors can swap. Have to look it up to be certain.
Being from CNY myself I remember what winters do to the old mopars, even worse in the southern tier.

A little fab work on the floor and I'm cool, just the one small hole. The rocker I'm definitely interested in. Save me some fab work there. Let me know what you have and I'll dig on my end.

Robert, we need to talk, LOL, got a couple Station wagons in Wellsboro that might supply you with anything else you need. Gotta stop by and drop off spindles, too. Looking good, though!

How'd I know you might have something, John? :-D When you were hacking up that 5th I didn't think the rocker on mine was that bad. Until I got to poking it with sharp stick.

make sure you don't turn the pick hammer around the wrong way and poke yourself in the eye, that will shake some rust loose, too.

I was looking for a pic of Homer with the hammer in his eye from the Simpsons Movie, but couldn't find one...

Not really.

This week at the shop has been slow, so I've been able to get back on it a bit.

The week before was fairly busy with three no starts coming in at once.

Took the time today to work on my partner in crime at the shop's Harley after it got laid over at a meet by some idiots leaning on it. Put some scratches in the saddle bag. So, out came the sandpaper and the mini polisher.

Since he has another meet coming up this weekend and two big rides at the end of the month I wanted to make sure it was all set for him.

Wow, this sure looks like a fun build. I always liked the looks of the M bodies and I'm sure this build is gonna be super cool. All that talk about Dark Spice is making me hungry!!! Keep up the good work there Robert, and thanks for keeping us all updated!!! Geof

With the history of this car and the family, Geof, it is turning into a fun build. If I could find the time to hit it and hit hard. I was hoping to have it in paint by the end of summer. Looks like that might get pushed back into fall, now, but that's the life of building a car.

It's been in family for 19 years now, it's not going anywhere. I little while longer won't hurt.

I hope to have the hood in prime before my surgery coming up at the end of the month. That's the biggest piece of fab work I'm doing. Then it should see the rotisserie.

before my surgery coming up at the end of the month

ya ain't gonna come back from your surgery as roberta are you:bootysha:
I hope all goes well with your surgery, just take your time on the car and don't over work yourself, like you said it's not going anywhere.

Nope, everything that's supposed to be there will remain there. :-D
