    Anyone ever run a mechanical tachometer?

    When I was racing small block chevies in the mid & late 70s, modified production 4 speed 6.50 gears, mechanical tach was more accurate, just make sure to keep spare cables, especially after a missed gear!! Steve

    Crush sleeve eliminator was in both 489 cases, the main cap on right side broke both times, but after 400 + runs & more the ring & pinion & the case said enough. Steve

    We drag race a 71 Demon, 440 rb 727 & 8 3/4, 4.30 gear, runs low 10's on foot brake. Broke 2 ring and pinions and cases (489) and 1 sprag. Going to a dana cause I put in a trans brake, don't want to take any more chances. Steve

    Any 4 inch bore sbc 4 bolt main from 1969 and up can be used to make a 4 bolt 327, just need a 3.25 stroke crank & the correct pin height piston & you have a 4 bolt 327. 1969 z28 302 inch engines were the first production sbc blocks, after that a train load of 350 inch blocks were made with 4...

    headers

    TTI's are good ,long lasting headers, BUT, you will cuss, grunt & groan when you have to change a starter. If you are required to have a transmission shield or blanket the blankets burn & lots of floor pan sheet metal work is required for any shield installation. Steve

    Our Demon has 29"tall Hoosier's, 4.30 gear & runs 7100rpm @ 1/4 mile, but we are running @132 - 133 mph with 10.2s being the best e.t. Steve

    My 8 3/4 has 9in brakes & they are on a 71 Demon. Isn't it true that all Mopar backing plates interchange? I hope they do, as I am looking to put 11in on the Demon. Any info would be great, Steve

    Leaky transmission

    Thanks to all, I had 2 problems, cracked cooling line & the Lokar dip stick was pushed all the way into the handle making the transmission about 2.5 qts too full A operating temp. Again thank you all.

    Seems to be dry in this area also, appears to be around the lines, shifter shaft seal, but all are new & don't leak unless in gear. Very hard to tell

    727 with a T/A reverse pattern manual valve body seemed to be leaking @ pan gasket, replaced gasket & pan, made 2 passes then leaked. Chased the leak to a shifter shaft seal, removed trans, then v/b, replaced seal. Noticed there was no gasket between separater plate & trans case, is there...
