Ok, Ok,
I know, Fox News... But this was pretty bad...
Fox news under cover, followed current Chrysler workers on their 11AM break.
To the local convenience store, then the park... where they filmed about 10guys hammering down the beer and liquor, and getting smoked up.Then back to work...All in like 20 minutes... and a mere few days after the Obama bail-out.
I'm guessing after this weekend they won't have jobs.
Just wondering how many saw this???

They'll get fired, grieve the firing with the UAW, get their jobs back after it goes through the grievance process, and get paid back pay for their time off.
New management since the bailout, and UAW will have their backs.
Can't prove anyone was drunk at the time now, nor can they prove they were high. The bottles were in bags, so a decent steward would point out that may just be pepsi. As for the pot, what pot? That was tobacco.
I see it happen all the time, there is a Ford plant not far from here and there is a bowling alley literally at the end of the parking lot. Go in around lunch time and there will be 50 or 60 plant guys there drinking lunch. There is usually 10 or 20 of them there at any other given time.

Doubt anything will happen.

they should all be piss tested

Strange this would even happen, when I worked at Chrysler they had a no tolerance policy... and no it wasn't a drug and alcohol policy.. it was a you CANNOT leave the plant on lunch or you would be fired.

sounds kinda like an invasion of privacy, its their lunch break what they supposed to do..hold hands and pray and sing church hymns? LOL

I can't believe these guys would get a pass on this. This is what's
wrong with this country....nobody gives a crap anymore. I wouldn't
want them building a vehicle for me.

Rant over

Thas been goin on since Henry Ford discovered the light bulb. I worked in an assembly plant for 32 years, no different from then to now.

The bad news:
After being in a number of Automotive plants across the country in the last 25 years, I can pretty much assure you that activity portrayed on FOX news is NOT peculiar to Chrysler plants. I mean no real slam here but if you don’t think that drinking & drugs are prevalent in virtually every plant at every company, you are naive. I have also been in Automotive plants outside the US and I can tell you with first hand certainty the situation is just as bad if not worse outside the US! That applies to Automotive suppliers as well, this situation is nothing new....seeing it on the news might be NEW news, but this activity has been going on for years & years.
The good news
From what I have been told and from what I have overheard from acquaintances that still work in those environments, the latest series of policies has graduated to what is being called “sub zero.” SZ says if you are caught, you are gone....if you have a known problem, you must seek help and you must be tested....they try to help BUT. 1 positive, just one and you are gone. The auto's and their suppliers are trying very hard to weed out this element. Their future success depends on it!! Today’s market is an unforgiving space....substandard anything is publicized on national news and that has had significant impact to US market share, something NONE of the autos can afford. Take a good look at the news article and watch that video....what you are seeing is “the last of a breed.” To those that take their employment seriously...this does not apply to you, keep up the good work. The US auto quality has pulled ahead of it's competition across the board.
PS. Companies that have plants in the US but are OWNED by foreign interest do NOT help our economy at all. Profits from those companies ares sent DIRECTLY to FOREIGN LANDS, true they employ US citizens, but the only reason for that is because it means they can ship more imports or build more product here based on how may US citizens they employ.....regardless of the hype, this is no where close to “fair trade.” Additionally the money input to the US economy by employing a few thousand workers, is no where NEAR what exits this land in profits....that is called LOSS!!! Sales of US cars on foreign soils is less than 15% compared to sales of foreign automakers sales on US soil reaching upwards of 50%.....that is neither equal nor fair!
I do not intend to piss anyone off, especially not those employed by a foreign concern. BUT facts are facts... when unemployment across the US reaches the staggering numbers of today, I think the playing field needs to be leveled..... you buy 15% you can import 15%.....you buy 30% you can import 30% and that goes for FOREIGN OWNED companies that build here....you buy 30% you can build 30% on our turf.....AND you pay the SAME TAX as the domestics, no incentives no breaks , no deferments.....equal means equal. Additionally as a foreign concern, you should be subject to and accountable to any and all legal actions that the domestics are held to. IF ya don’t like that build & sell your product ELSEWHERE!!
This is no longer a quality issue ( as in the past) Quality across the board is about equal if not ahead....this is an economic issue and our politician are getting rich feeding foreign concerns our lunch, while unemployment here skyrockets! I'd say it's time for a change alright, but NOT the one we have been SOLD..... Get busy AMERICA, do your homework and remember to VOTE this November
rant over LOL

20 years in a "small" factory. 40 guys on floor during the day.
Pay day, Thursday, most hit the bank, then the bar, then back to work after "lunch". Had a couple of very good men in the shop that started the day, every day, by getting high before 7am, then at 11:30 again during lunch.
A lot of productivity in the '80's in the shop courtesy of "crank"(meth?).
I can't imagine any of of this is uncommon, at the same time though, in this day and age, I can't imagine it would be tolerated either.

Try doing the same thing every minute of every hour, every day, every week, month, year and see if you don,t need some kind of crutch. As long as their not on Company property and it doesn,t affect their production, who cares?

24 years at Ford plant.

Plus no ones gonna buy the crap their building anyways, I can run the hell out of a 320 CAT track hoe high..... ;)

This is an old story. I remember back in the 60s that every garage had a story about finding a beer bottle in a car door left by a disgruntled auto worker. They said they always drank on the job too. I've had 6 real jobs in my working life. 3 were Union and 3 were not. In all but my present job, there were workers who drank and smoked on the job. I do mean on the job too. Not just on their breaks. I say the video is bogus though.

thats all thats in the news here in detroit should have just had them fired and not blown it all over the news lets make the auto industry look worse why dont we

Last I heard the UAW owns a majority share of Chrysler thanks to Mr. Obama, much like leaving the fox in charge of the henhouse. :angry7:

its not the same chrysler that built a bodies so i could care less. Dumbasses deserve to get fired. Who wants to ruin a good buzz at work? Not me.I,d burn one and have to go home.

drunk or high drivers = shoot them
drunk or high workers = fire them
if you want to do that **** do it at your own home
not on someone else's time or dime
