Rocky Mountain Dashes

-
There was a thread on that here recently, don't remember the details but a lot of bad fit, bad service comments as I recall.

They just got a little wordage in Mopar Muscle issue -- July. That my be why he is asking.

i had heard about fitment issues but remember they are custom dashes not OEM replacements..kinda like putting fiberglass body parts where metal parts used to be. ever install a universal exhaust kit? there was a fellow on BBD that complained but he never bought one!!!second hand information..most of the folks that bought one are reasonably happy......i am

Cant see how fitment issues would really arise. All the dash is is a piece of stainless bent to shape of dash face with some pods welded in. I ordered one for my RHD cuda and all I had to do was trim a little off the right lower edge to fit teh curve of the RHD dash frame (which is a mirror of the US A body dash frame).

I purchased one for a 67 barracuda. The mounting holes did not line up, the radio cut out was in the wrong location, I had to cut and trim the entire dash frame to install it. It is a CUSTOM dash. Not a bolt in. Just my two cents.

I had to cut my openings as well but, i was expecting to, it did say this was not a direct replacement for factory

Maybe that was the misconception. For the amount of money you pay for one of these, you would expect better fitment.

I also bought a rocky mountain instrument panel for my 75 duster. I had to trim a little out of the dash to get it to fit, nothing major, but in my opinion it was worth it. It sure beat the hell out of the stock faded wood grain cluster, with the mighty 100 mph speedo. Now I can monitor my stroker much better :)

By the way sydcuda, where did you get the switch knobs for your lights and wipers? The ones I put on don't go with the rest of the aluminum dash, they are all black with the little light and wiper symbols and look like they belong in a brand new durango. I like yours way better

Just courious - I've never purchased one of their dashes - but how hard could it possibly be to get the hole in the right place? It sounds to me that they (or some blindly loyal customers) are using "custom peice" as an excuse. I would think a custom piece would have NO holes drilled and you would have to locate and fit as needed. If these dashes are designed to fit into the stock location, and are actually pre-drilled for mounting screws, why would they consistently be off? I know some will say manufacturing variences, but that is not a good excuse because you can take a stock dash from virtually any car and swap it with another and the screw holes line up - there can't be too big of a varience in mounting points if that's the case. The only reason it's "custom" is because of the various layouts and individual gagues that you can use. Otherwise the piece itself should pretty much fit without any issues.

Am I wrong in my thinking? Am I missing something?

I think the biggest thing is with the layouts of the gauges they offer, the area is just to large, as compared to stock. So every thing else must be moved over.

I think they were a little to proud ($$$) of an product that could have used a little more measurement and finish. Personally I built my own.

So where can one find dashes like these now? I have a 67 Dart that I would like a dash for. Any one know?

Thanks,
Mark

Keep an eye out on eBay. They pop up there once in a while.

Had no problem with fit of finish on mine. Had it powder coated right over the surface it came with. Yes ya have to cut the dash but there isn't any other way to get the gauges to fit with a rmd of the other cheaper plastic inserts.

Mark here, former maker of the RMD. SO much bad press. It is still a mystery to me how there can be bad feelings about a product where there was ALWAYS a "return-it-if-your-not-happy" policy. No questions, no charge. What more could be offered?

We decided to build a dash that could house round-dial gauges arranged like we wanted. There was no thought to factory placement. Didn't care. Wasn't the plan. We contracted the whole thing so as to offer a service. My brother and I are not machinists and relied on 6 vendors / suppliers to have the product built.

We built the original dash and decided to see if anyone else wanted one. We refined the process and tried to make the outer shape better, have the tubes fit better, have the welds fit better.... etc. We lost money for years as those vendors kept charging more. Closed shop when it was cost prohibitive, and there was just complaining.... Lost too much $$$$$$ to continue that process.

Funny, I was just thinking the other day about doin' those again.

I wanted one, but the cost kept me from ordering one. But I really wasn't a prospect, why?... I built mine, including the guages, for under $200.00. RMD's clients will be installing the best, bumper-to-bumper. I'm a fan of RMD!

I think you guys did a great job and had a great product. You closed up before I was to that point of the build but I see them all over the place and always think they look great.

Don't let those who complain get you down, many people love them. The voice of the unhappy is always twice as loud as those who are happy.....

Yea man, the product looks great. I would love to buy one if they were still available. Now to search for one....... ugh!

Mark, I bought one of the last ones made 'cause you closed up shop shortly I received mine. Have to say the only way I'll be happier with mine is when I finally get to the point of my build to install it in the dash frame.
I've always been happy I got mine early like I did.

Those gauges are beautiful... who made them?

I got one of that last dashes made as well. Hung on the wall for 2 years and finally got it in last spring, the only thing I don't like about it is my ability to put a great looking finish on it.
