My buddy had a body shop do the body work and primer. He got it back after 5 years. :wack: The entire body will still need to be blocked and filler added in a few places. They did very poor work for any body shop's standards. I can feel a few waves and bumps in the panels. My goal is to have it done in 2 weeks. Base, clear, cut and buffed. I just thought I would start a thread and post the progress.

Block and fill and fill again Badart, looking forward to the outcome
I did a 64 chevy II that a friend had spent big money to have work dun to about that point, The bill was 2.100 from the shop and I went with him to pick it up :protest::protest:
I showed the faulty work and a tow truck picked it up and they let him have it back for 1.300 We blocked and let it set and shrink for a few days and filled some places and shot it with some good builder primmer and let it cure, Wet sanded and primed and scuffed it down and I shot the Teal/Aqua Color base coat on and clear coated :colors:
Man I miss doing paint jobs :glasses8::glasses8: It turned out shinny and flat as a mirror after a wet sand and buff. Looking forward to watching this thread with envy Badart :glasses8: What color ?

Memike the bodywork is not that horrible, but needs attention in a few places. Not more than a skim coat in most. The lines in the rear quarters need work too. I would be really disappointed if it were my car. He really liked the silver color that is on my truck. It's actually dark carbon fiber metallic. It will shine like this.

I can't wait to see the out come of this. I think it will look good this color.

Well the last couple of days I have aligned all of the doors and panels, pulled the window glass, regulators and etc. I have also blocked the hood and deck lid. The passenger side door is the worst. I was previously dented and the other body guy pounded it out too far and caused a high spot right across the middle of the door. I had to hammer and dolly it for a couple of hours to get it close. The top of both rear quarters had waves where he had welded on new quarter skins. You know the drill.

I plan to block the rest of the car the next couple of days and shoot epoxy primer and urethane surfacer on Monday-Tuesday.

Well these are about a week old. The car is now in clear and wet sanding is done and have started cutting and it turned out great. The Chevy engine bay and other short cuts were not my choice. It's the way the owner wanted to do it, so that's what I did.

Dang, wish you were closer as I,d have you finish my car.I,m sure mine needs more work than your friends though.Looks nice!

looks good. What paint did you use?

Thanks, I have used the summit brand single stage urethane for the last 3 paint jobs and the cars still look great. It shoots good and the entire paint job including all supplies only cost about $425. That includes Epoxy Primer, Surfacer, base, clear, sand paper, tape and cutting compound and swirl remover. He paid for supplies and is just paying me for labor.

On the doors I shot PPG Black with a flatner. Turned out great and should be pretty durable.

Thanks pettybludart. You would pass out if you knew how little I was charging this guy. In a sick way I kind of enjoy it. Oh I forgot to mention that is pic is just base and is before I shot the clear.

Wow! Nice work! That gives me a good feeling about shooting my '70 now!

nice work !!
.. but i'm kind of confused. you mentioned using Summit single stage paint and then said you got base and clear coats. I alway thought that single stage paints didn't use a clear coat. did I misunderstand the single stage thing?
thanks- pauly

Sorry to confuse. Single stage urethane have some clear mixed in with the paint and gives a glossy finish, but still can be cleared with a urethane. I like to clear it anyway to give it some protection especially on a metallic. Better finish and can be wet sanded to fix a scratch.

Thanks for the support and nice comments everyone. The car is finished. Turned out really nice.
