Possible to get early A down to 2,700lbs?

Thanks everyone. I feel much better.

I agree.

But can you run lexan to replace stock glass in the SCCA Solo II C-Prepared class?

I think 63-65 Valiant sedan would be the best choice. Maybe even a 60-62 Valiant sedan. You are going to use the 60-62 suspension anyways.

But you have what you have. And a 65 Barracuda is cooler than a 60 Valiant. It might not matter much after it's gutted as much as a C-Prepared car can get.

Steve my plans have changed a little. I am going to run in the bigger displacement class and just add lead to the car to get as close to a 50/50 as possible and hit the 3,000lb min limit. I have heard from a few that run that class saying that the torque more than makes up for the 300lb weight penalty. Also claiming that many mustangs are running with more than 300lbs of lead in the car and they are very fast cars. I would like to leave in all of the glass, because I plan on it still being somewhat street legal. :D

The rear glass then will add rear weight getting you closer to 50/50 weight split. Only bummer is that it is high weight. In a perfect world you want a lead pan under car to be a low as possible and just in front of the rear wheels.

Exactly what I was thinking. Are you going to Vegas in the spring?

My 64 Signet weighed in at 2490 something and no fiberglass anything

That is amazing! I would love to see your recipe for dropping that much weight from the valiant.

There are fiberglass hoods, fenders and valances avail for 65 barracuda. A glass hood would make sense,, the factory one is a heavy beast. The steel fenders aren't that heavy in my opinion.

My '66 Valiant weighed exactly 3,000 pounds--340 with cast iron hemi 4-speed, aluminum intake, fenderwell headers, 8-3/4 rear, no front bumper, no heater, some bracing removed from hood, torsion bar springs removed from hood (used one of those for hood prop rod), hood pins instead of latch, lexan side windows, 1/2 tank of gas.

I haven't weighed my '65 cuda with 340 and 727 torqueflite, but I'm guessing a couple of hundred pounds more. The rear glass is the big number, and I was really disappointed when I realized how heavy the folding rear seat was when I took it out for carpet/upholstery.

Ditto on the seats, that back folder is like solid...weight. The front buckets are no light weights either. I got 20 lbs of rubber matting under my carpet, came with the carpet kit. If you went with just a heal pad, there is 25 lbs...I think if you dumped the seats you would save 200 lbs right there.
