My car is an all purpose car, so it will have heat and AC once I'm done putting it back in..

I noticed my drivers air vent box is broken pretty bad and started looking for a new one, but - is this for heat or what? If it's just fresh air, I can't imagine why I should bother replacing it, maybe just make a block off plate for the hole?

Just a fresh air vent.
Well, that and a drink hiding place if you get pulled over. :)

Bahaha, I like the drink hider better than the leaf trap. I've definitely seen leaves in these things before!

Block off plate it is - done and done!

I say, devise a way that you can re--install it. "Back when" I LOVED these vents. My 64, 69, and 70 RR all had 'em.

One reversible way would be to make a "toggle." bend up a piece of strap, weld a nut in the middle, and make a plate below with a gasket. Just clamp it from the bottom, like an engine block heater

I'll just make a block off plate that bolts in place of what's there. Totally reversible. I'm not sure I get what you're describing there though..

I've asked several times for someone to create a filtered vent that can open and close to replace the swinging doors down there. The vent/grille doesn't absolutely have to be pentastar shaped. Anything to keep the dust and stuff from flying in would work.

I Think it will have to be a cover that goes up into the cowl and cover the water collar. A dome, like half of a ball maybe ?

Oh, the old open container behind the door trick, eh?
Got to say I never considered that. But I always thought the Mopar style of fresh air vents are simpler and more efficiently than any other design. I want to keep my Dart simple so I'm keeping the fresh air vents in my '69 Dart and doing without air conditioning. We just don't have that many continuous hot days here in SoCal.
Besides, when finally finished I want to hear the beautiful sound of a sweet-running smallblock.

Way back when, I have used the vent for that. (open container stash)
Between the two vents you can keep a 12 pack cold in the winter also.:D

Fiberglass, sheetmetal; fix it. No AC, kinda helps opening it in the summer. And it helps blow the leaves out of the cowl at speed. lol.

My .02: Block it off for the winter. Driver side vent should be easy to find, just wait it out. They seem to be the same for all a bodies. Nice in summer without a/c.
