Whats it worth - 70 340 Swinger Basket Case

-
Please do not take this as a slam on you because that is not the intent. It is more of a question. Look at all kinds of sale ads. Had a 340.......mint interior, except for the 6" rip in the seat...list goes on. But in regards to the folks that will try to sell a car saying it is a 340 car....minus the motor. So what? Last I checked I could not go down to the local dealer, hand them the vin and walk out with the correct 340. To the seat comment....last I checked a rip meant less than perfect. In the case of a 35+ year old seat, seriously doubt that it will be able to be repaired. Am I being to picky?
Looking at things the way some folks do I guess I could say I am in perfect health....except for having several mental ailments, being over weight, tweaked back, wrecked shoulders, copd. Gee, I feel better already.....

Without pics, this is just another waste of site bandwidth. Your asking us to pull numbers out of thin air. Post some pics if you really want to sell the car.

I was just talking to him. I'm not going to bother going to see it for now. He was telling me some of the stuff that's brand new and with the car rechromed bumper, emblems, mint bezels, new torsion bars, new rad, and a ton more and its easy to see why he wants 5k. I was just trying to help him out and make sure he didn't get low balled. He'll keep it for anything under 5 which is good.

If this guy doesn't take it then I offered to help him go thru the boxes and make an inventory and take some picks.

Too bad its such an ugly POS..... lol.

From a buyers prospective I would assume parts are missing, when these cars are taken apart. No matter how hard you try to see if everything is there, something will always be missing.

I'd be in for maybe $2,000 if it was in my area.

Let him keep it. I can;t tell you how many times I've seen/heard "all the parts are there" and they are not even close. In fact, never has that been the case unless the car was all together to begin with and we looked. As far as I'm concerned it would be maybe 2K tops. Maybe less depending on the bodywork and actual parts inventory.

Ok.... I'm not asking anyone to buy the thing.

Lets try this... He's going to he happy if he gets $5000 for the car.

Working backwards if this car was complete and in great shape I figure that the most it would be worth being a non matching numbers car would be $20k... Am I high/low?

We figure this thing is going to need $10 to $15k to complete... paint, parts, rebuild, etc.

Does all that sound reasonable?

What it could be worth completely restored is irrelevant. Working backwards from a BJ price is never going to work. Finding somebody with the vision and gumption to make it so is the problem.

A non-running basket case in my neighborhood might go for as much as $2k or as little as just over scrap value.

I think the area has a lot to do with the prices... Especially cars in Canada IMO. I paid $3200 for my 1970 Swinger and it needs ALOT of sheetmetal, (framerails and roof are solid) but I think it's worth saving because it is a factory hemi orange 4 speed, black interior with black tail stripe car (and has the fender tag) certain options will make it more valuable like high impact colours and 4 speed like mentioned above. original motor and trans are gone in mine too, but has 360 and I'm not to concerned about that. (Some people are) I hope this gives you an idea of what to expect price wise.. What colour and options does it have?

I can see why buying someone's project in primer can be scary, you never know if it was hacked unless you start right back from the beginning by stripping it down. My car you could see all the sin, which I think is better.

I picked up a complete1970 340 Dart Swinger 18 months ago. Mint interior except for the infamous ripped driver seat. Motor was seized( not anymore) and needs bodywork, quarters, doors, fenders. Numbers matching drivetrain, hemi orange with black vynyl top,and a bucket seat console to boot. Automatic trans. Paid $ 5500 and thought that was fair. IMO with the vague info a non #s car about $2500. If it's #s matching, closer to$5000.

Well he sold everything for $4k.

After looking at everything he told him the lowest he would take was 4k and the guy said ok. Might have got the 5 if he stuck to his guns.

Ohwell, another mopar in good hands and hopefully back on the road sooner than later.

Numbers matching is definitely a PLUS factor. However, " used to be a 340 car" is kind of a stupid term for anyone to use. If it is a factory h-code 340 car, it will always be just that. ( A factory 340 car ). Numbers matching, NOM, even running a 318 or 360, or no motor at all ! Just my two cents fellas. Think I will crack a Coors Light, and go admire the 70 340 Swinger in my garage. Still is and always will be a 340 car.
