My car shelter is sick

-
I need to find a new one too. My canopy colapsed under a heavy wet snow this spring. The tarp held the snow, but the structure just folded up under the weight.

mines the opposite the steel tubing is strong.come on someone buy a top.I like top less but.:hello2:

Here is what i have on my shop / pole barnola. My asssumption is the clear will not absorb as much uv so it will last longer. But it does pass thu more heat / uv. Although I have only had it on for 9 months, it lasted one winter and all summer:

Most of the economical tarp types will start leaking in 1 year and by 1.5 years they are torn somewhere. The cheap ones will die in 6 months.

We get a 2 month spell of 105+ F and some pretty wild pounding wind with +25 F in the winter but not as dramatic as the midwest gets.. All in all, I should have friggin put a tin roof on. I will eventually as I am about 1K deep in tarps in 3 years.

I just looked at that link about rubber roofing and it is by far the best durability and price per square foot that i have seen and i have been lookin at roof tarps constantly for 3 years. It may very well be what I put on mine next.

This is my solution! My fabric was starting to leak after 3 winters, so I got a bunch of 4x8 Aluminum sheets cut them down and bent them up into standing seam panels and strapped the tent frame with 1" girt. Cost me ZERO dollars. :blob:Leftover stock from the job site!

I plan on wrapping the sides with T-111 exterior plywood, and make a couple swing out barn doors for the front and my Fake garage or "Fauxrage" will be complete! You could get similar results with some furring strips screwed to the tent frame and corrugated metal or plastic panels fastened to those! Lowes or Home Depot should carry the panels. Craigslist might be a cheap source for panels too if you get lucky!

If you keep the canvas on the frame slice holes in the roof and work through them and work your way from one end to the other cause you don`t want to be climbing on it! This way you still have the tent sides! Now when winter hits I wont be out there every couple of hours beating the snow off with a broom it should just slide right off! :glasses7:

Hey Don.
Call Barretts north of Stirling,( "Coverall" buildings)
..I bought my tarp from them and it is guaranteed 25 years,i think it's 30 mil thick.
regular tarp lasts quite awhile on the sides and my top overlaps it a foot
20 x 22 i think was about $250,it`s not cheap

Which cost more ???? a tarp or a repair to a car???.. I personally would build something that will hold up for years to come instead of throwing money away year after year.. How do you replace a car that is vintage and have so much time in restoring...It seems like a no brainer, but I'm not in your shoes and dont know all the circuimstances that may prevent you from building a long lasting structure...Bill

Hi guysss, yes my car shelter is sick:sad5: the problim is the cover is shot, getting tirered of buying tarps to wrap over it that just don't last more than a year.Maybe I am not buying the right one, bingo.I need some subjugation what to use,the last one i bought from TSC the guy said o ya a good one farmers use them to cover hay,ya right 1 year is all i got and it cost me 150.I wish I could afford a replacement cover that it came with but 400 ya right. My Dart is knot selling so I have to get something to use just spent 22 bucks on a blue tarp but its not going to last.It would be nice to just put a metal roof on but I CANT AFFORD IT.help.

Snake hey man i understand, but i got a good idea for you. Is your shelter frame a square type that u can hang courrigated metal on, try your local metal supply house that sell this stuff. Sometimes they use scratched sheets to cover the good ones for transport. These damaged sheets sell super cheap out my way in texas. They may be all different colors but thats nothing a can of paint wont fix. My buddy built a carport out of well pipe, and scrap courrigate. Once it was painted it looked real nice. He prob has $200 to $300 in the whole thing.

I helped my cousin bolt on plywood and then we shingled it one summer. Later on he found someone wanting a bunch of tin siding removes so we used those panels for the sides.

na the top is kind of round thanksssssssssssss.

Since you have acreage a shipping container might be something you would want to consider if they are available in your area.

i have a friend who bought 2 of em, parked em smack next to each other, cut the walls out of em on the sides that butted together, joined the ceiling and the floor, pretty awesome and durable shop

the corrugate bends you run it longways front to back and bend it. do the ends first , and overlap it working your way to the peak. my friend has one of these with a rounded top peak. i will try to take a pic of it if you want me to so you can see what im talking about. just PM me with your email addy if interested. this garage started out as a curved top carport. now its got end walls and roll up doors on both ends on it.

One guy here too four of them and made a U leaving all the doors to the outside then put a roof over the whole thing. That way he had the center to park equipment in and all the storage in the containers .

Your lucky the manufacture wont sell to the public *** holes.lol

I believe mine was a King as well. I got it from Sam's Club aka Walmart.
It lasted about 3 years thru some tough winters, high winds too.
It was not like yours, the sides were straight.
When the top started to leak, I bought 2 new tops from Sam's for $90 a piece, and put 1 new top over the old top. It made it stronger. Mine also had the truss kit and larger poles.
I think it was originally $350.
I built a frame for the ground out of four by fours and screwed the pole mounts to it, and tied the sides to it. I also screwed their stakes in the ground.
It held up extremely well, even in high winds. The biggest issue was keeping the wind out of it and from opening the zippered door. I would tie the zippers to stakes in the ground.
Only a few times I had to go inside and use a broom to push heavy snow off.
I still have it, just not set up.
I also ran rope inside and tied the whole thing together, from one end to the other, crisscrossed, and tied the horizontal poles to the ground. The truss kit was a big help.

Good luck, I know what it is like to have no other option but to use one of these shelters, with harsh weather.
Hope this helps.

WELL i bought a bale tarp I talk to an old farmer he say they use it to cover there hay hes say he has the same one for 5 years now they hold up well.I WILL POST A PIC AS SOON AS ITS DONE TODAY.

Looks good, hopefully will last a bit longer then the others you have tried.
