Going to look at a 66 convertible. All it says is 8 cylinder, auto. Original with 46000 miles. What on the vin would represent the hipo 4 barrel motor?
Thanks

LP27D6....if it is a GT. Good chance it is. The next digit is 2 if it was built in Hamtramck or
5 if it was built in LA. Take a photo of the fender tag on the drivers inner fender for more information. tmm

Look for a "32" on the fender tag under the "AB". The VIN will be the same two barrel or four ("D" in the 5th position).

No. The D is just a V8 (273 only option) You need the 32 under the AB like Jim stated on the fender tag.

The two barrel cars had a fender emblem that said " 273 V eight" and the "charger" ( aka "Commando") said 273 four barrel.

Does it really matter if it's a four barrel engine originally?
I don't think it would have any effect on how much I would bid.

Not sure? I'm just trying to figure a value on it and assumed the 4 barrel if it truly is a numbers matching car would be worth more. I'd like to get it for less than 5k? If it's a good solid car

Not quite. The two barrel 66 GT got the V8 emblem. It did not have 273 in it or the word "eight".

66 gt convertibles with the 273 four barrel option code stamped 32 on the vin tag
were very low production numbers, and would be a great find if in decent shape
good luck

No specific production numbers for 66 Dart Convertibles. The hardtops and Verts were all grouped together. My 66 HP273 4 speed car was one of 1237 which included hardtops and convertibles. I don't have nunbers for auto cars but may be able to dig some up if I have time tonight. tmm

The day after we bought our 68 GTS convertible I saw a 66 GT convertible with four barrel badges and a four speed (not for sale) in nice shape in San Jose. Never saw the car again...

I don't have high hopes it's a four barrel four speed car. But, I'd like to have as much info as I can by auction time

3203 curb weight without a driver? That's a chubby A!

Those 66 rear bumpers are heavy. The consoles are long and those super wide 14x 6 wheels are beefy! lol

That car looks like the same one from Hemming Muscle magazine

See here-> http://www.hemmings.com/mus/stories/2008/11/01/hmn_feature13.html

I think it was on eBay about a year after the article & I remember it had a buy it now over $10,000.

On the front fender emblems I was not correct about the two barrel emblem.

And yes the convertibles with the added steel in the sill area for structure are heavy.

Here's a shot of those convertible rocker reinforcements. Thanks to 65val for the photo. They add a lot of weight! tmm
