So, the pepop exhaust for the 66 was made very well, but unfortunately for a four barrel car. Originally a 273 car now with a 318. So I decided to go with dual exhaust. Problem is, when the pipe comes off the manifold and passes the oil filter, there will be no way possible to get the filter out. The torsion bar completes the cage! What has anyone done to solve this problem? Was the oil filter located somewhere else on a 273??
Thanks

Angle isn't the problem. Filter size. I can back it out, just not enough room to remove it between the torsion bar and exhaust!!

Yes, I understood the problem from the beginning. The 90 degree allows you to unscrew the filter coming in from the rear or the front. Once mounted it can be rotated to almost any clock position but you will no longer unscrew it coming directly away from the engine, instead you unscrew it 90 degrees from the direction it currently screws in. Check out the pics from under my 318 69 Barracuda....

PS - I have a passenegr 360 2 1/4" magnum exhaust manifold so my exhaust exits over and behind the oil filter but the principle is the same, you rotate the adapter into the clock position that gives you the most room/clearance.

I assume you are using the long filter. A shorter filter may work without using the 90* adapter.

I have a shorty in there. I don't think the adapter will make a difference. I had exhaust guy put a flange right before it drops under the trans mount (which I afapted for the dual). I guess I'll drop that small section out when the first oil change is due and look at it from there?

I have a right angle adapter on mine with the stock exhaust and a full sized filter. I change the filter from the top. No fighting with steering linkage and torsion bars. tmm

Yep, you need the 90* filter adapter! That's what I run with Spitfires and I can get my filter off no problem! Geof

Toolman hit on a key, take it out the top. Another suggestion, try a filter for a Turbo charged PT Crusier. Purolator #20195 (I think) It is narrower and works on all mopar engines. I use them on all my engines,Just a thought.

Looks great! Custom bent or out of the box?

Custom. I had Gus at USA muffler do it. Heard good things, was a little concerned but he did a real nice job front to back for 5 bills

run a remote. Its a hockey puck sized adapter with 2 hose fittings. Run 2 90's off it and rout the lines up to the fenderwell, mount filter adapter and now your filter is up on the fenderwell. Not stock but makes filter changed a breeze. Use a quality anti-drain back filter, most have them just be sure. I had Super-comps on mine and even with the 90, I couldnt get the cartridge out the top! Now they got shorties and the small PT version.

I think I have clearance to pull it from the top. If not, I did have him put a flange on the right side. If I have to, I can drop that part of the exhaust to add a 90 degree or remote. I guess I'll find out in 500 miles.
