some of you probably read my Nissan 340sx pipe dream, but with a TON of help from whitepunkonnitro, the foul, disgusting combination of old school muscle and new school hoonin' is going to become reality. I have to choose a car for the build. a scamp or a 4 door early dart. both are beat on enough for me to not care about cutting it up or hitting a wall here and there, but still good enough to pass for a ratty drift missile. a list is probably easier to read than a paragraph so I'll go that route.

body: scamp or early 4 door dart

power plant: starting with a 273 that I built a while back. not a fire breather by any means, but with a steep rear gear it ought to do fine for now.

transmission: dakota 5 speed. we'll see how long that lasts... but at $70-ish from the junkyard and a discount at the tranny supply store I can make it work.

rear end: probably 8.25... welded... a lot. geared fairly steep if i can help it. this is a beater build that I'm throwing together because I like to drift. not gonna spend big bucks on LSD.

wheels and tires: black steelies and whatever freebie tires I can get my hands on.

it's gonna be low, loud, and it's gonna go sideways. I'm a broke 18 year old college kid who's more than likely going to be living in the shop with the car. not putting much into this car. it's going to work and that's it.
don't have pics of the car or anything entertaining so I'll post pics of the motor I guess.

also, it'll have one, maybe two plastic bucket seats. the only real goody on this thing is gonna be an ASD vertical hydraulic handbrake.

273 for the drift missile sittin under the bench behind my toolbox, also, chel out the killer 440+6 on the test stand :glasses7:

4door early Abody FTW! Less weight by 200-400lbs and probably less chassis flex than the 2dr hardtop Scamp! Also a 4.5" shorter wheelbase!

You sir, have a wonderful idea that I've considered as well!

Ideas for the pot:
lose the bumpers, fab some cheap bash bars
weld the rear doors shut for more rigidity (if 4 door)
at least a 4 point cage

Vaughn Gittin Jr.'s fox missile got me thinking muscle cars would be cool missiles lol

all 4 doors will be gutted to the skins and welded on. plexiglass windows as well. obviously a cage. might be going to the lot later on. if so I'll take pics of the car.

panhard bar for rear setup. 40 year old springs are gonna be flexy! derby headers, U-them then run them down the fenderwell, cheap and loud with no scraping. frame connectors too, welded as good as you can to the floorboards.

adifferentcity, I may need help with the tranny crossmember and tunnel when I get to that point. but I'm jobless right now so funds have brought this to a screeching halt but I'd like to have this car moving by the start of the 2015 season

okay folks, the build has picked up again, got ahold of the Pro/Am drift rulebook and now we have some kind of sense of direction with the car.

the car has been moved into shop space, and the plan for it now is a 440 with a 3 speed manual.
first on the to-do list is steering. being that this is a track only car i'll probably just do a bare shaft supported by some sort of carrier bearing bolted to a dash bar.

moved in the new space, don't mind my partner's "victory pose" on the hood. haha

wonder why that is. certainly couldn't be your car or shop space, could it tony? lol big thanks for all the help and support on this, by the way

Are you going to do any steering mods? Like shortened knuckles? It'll be very difficult to turn in and transition with a large mopar wheel and lousy factory steering box.

got the car mostly torn down now. ProAm drift requires at least a 6 point cage, so that's thrown a wrench in the gears. going to be carving the inner fenders soon. if anyone has a set of beater fenders PLEASE let me know!

McGee, if you gut those early A inner fenders, Ill help you recoups some cash. Mine were removed at the welds so if you leave me a weldable overhange from the originals (ie cut them to include the spot welds) Ill buy them off you or help you out if you need anything in trade.
