First thing! Punctuation please!

Two! Get a job! These cars can be expensive!!

When I was 17 I wanted to turn everything into a racecar, I still do! Just know that it is possible to go to far. I did that on my last car and stopped enjoying it.

Start by going in to the "members restorations" section and look through a ton of builds. This will help you get some ideas and knowledge on the direction you want to go in.

Good luck! And let's see some pictures of what you're starting with.

at 17 its gonna be tough. these stupid cars are expensive these days.

most likely it will only spin one wheel.

i know you are not gonna want to her it but at this point you are probably better off getting the car to look the part and just get the 318 running nicely and make sure the car is safe. as time passes you can gather parts to mod the way you want.

here is a done up 73 dart..

Best advise..get a job...after 5 yrs working ...then maybe you will be able to afford to build if not married.LOL

another good idea- see if you can take some automotive classes!! that would help you out ALOT!!! its always nice to see the younger kids that still enjoy the older cars. MOPAR especially!!

I'm sure at 17 patience is probably not abundant, but you'll need it (unless you have a huge bankroll). I'd recommend you layout a gameplan on you want to do to the car (is it going to be your daily driver or all out badass). Then start at the rear end and work forward. I always went engine first because it was cool. Then I started breaking everything behind the engine. build a strong foundation and you make and you can have a pretty salty car with a reasonably stock engine.

Okay here are pics of the car I paid 2k for it runs drives I've put a b&m ratchet shifter in it and 2 10in subs that's it I was going to save up and buy a used 440 to make it a super bee and also my grandpa is a mechanic so he helps me out quit a bit it's not painted yet obviously but it's probably going to be all black with little trim and chrome "murdered out" and I plan on getting rally wheels

Hey man. 18 here so not much older than you. Like everyone else has said, it's expensive. And you need patience. Lots. Your money will run out, you'll get disgruntled with the car. It happens. Happening to me right now. I've had my car for over a year now, and it still isn't done. But, I wouldn't trade it. It's been a long process, but its been great. You'll bond with your car. You'll also meet some incredible people here. Keep us updated dude. Good luck

Welcome aboard - good to see more young guns showing up!
Good advice a few posts back about taking advantage of auto shop classes at the high school or community college!

To get the look, super stock springs and wide tires. Matching the front wheels to the rears and then Adding tires will be about an easy $1000.

What rear end is in the car now? 8-1/4? Check summit racing for prices on sure grips. That's what makes both tires spin.

I can't imagine trying to build a car at 17 with the funds it takes to make these cars look good and go fast. Try to get a plan of what you want to do with the car. Find some member's restorations and see how they are doing their cars and see what you like.

I got my 73 dart swinger at 18, I just turned 21 now and im still not done! It started out exactly like yours, 318/904/7 1/4 rear end. My 318 was toast, so I pulled it and build a pretty hot 360 (~450hp), 999 trans with a shift kit, and installing the 8 3/4 with 4.10 gears pretty soon.

This build took me a long time. I would suggest you get the 318 running good, clean up the car and do all the maintenance on it, then put a nice set of wheels on it and im sure youll be happy with it!

PS the 8 3/4 will substantially reduce the cars rake! lol I dont like that much rake.

And no, the front doesnt rub with 215 tires!

Always takes more time, money then you think. I did my 64 sport fury convt, 67 dart gts 440, 66 hemi charger, and now my 66 273 Dart gt. ALL were longer to do and LOTS more money then planned. MT

S/S springs 3500lbs. From my E body Cuda on my '71 Duster
