Just bought a buffer ball that attaches to your drill..did some aluminum plating..should have bought one years ago..

But it is black now after the polishing..

How do you clean it ?

Thanks
Ian.

Dont have a buffer ball, but have cleaned other polishing stuff with dish soap and water.

Soap and water, and let it dry. The black stuff is the dirt and oxidation that the polish removes. Most metal polishes turn black when they're working. I always follow up with a clean ball/buffer/towel after to get that little bit of extra shine.

Good luck Ian. Mine has been black for years.
The best cure is to get a new one for Fathers Day.!
If you are successful at cleaning it, could let me know please.

Jean Guy,

No need to buy a new one..Update:

Well I tried the soap and water thing. It really didn't work...

So I went back to our MX days when I had 10 air filters to clean at one time and we hadn't discovered water based air filter oil yet...I am allergic to most petroleum products so I don't do this lightly..so after donning a set of rubber gloves..

Outside, I took a bucket and poured some gas into it...popped the 2 balls into the gas,I have a conical one for getting into rims as well..washed hard..rinsed the gas out and dropped them into hot soapy water.. roughed them up with my hands..them rinsed them under cold water..

Mounted them on the drill and spun them while squeezing them..

They look brand new again..without a gas smell..

Ian :)
