Hi again folks!
Was thinking about what recommendations for torsion bar sizes you might have for a 440 Duster, with a 4 speed. Nothing too road race style just a fun weekend cruiser with an occasional burnout. I am planning on power steering, manual disc brakes and possibly air conditioning. Also I don't see any markings on the existing ones how can I determine what I already have...

Thanks again!

Probably the factory A body big block bars would be good. They are listed in the MP suspension book.

The OE BB A-body bars are -894R,-895L , and are .890" dia. The .910" bars can be
had for the same coin if you want slightly more competent road manners and still roll plenty
smooth w/that 440 up there.
The markings are on the ends of the OE bars,in pairs R & L as above, of which the
same are the largest OE's, so smaller will be 92/93 etc. etc......
:coffee2:

Thanks Killer6 was just reading up on the .890 bars lots of people like to run em!

Thanks killer6. I couldn't remember which bars and I am too lazy to go get my MP suspension book. lol

hold off on those .890 bars.
i put a new pair in my last small block dart and they were just as oozy as the .870's
i don't think they did anything.I have .920's in my current Dart 340 project and it isn't
stiff at all.

I have PST 1.03 bars in mine. a bit stiff but work great with the 440 in it. Just my 2 cents.

I also just put 1.03 PST bars in a Big Block GTS. Only drove it to the end of the Neighborhood to do a burn out though. No front end yet. LOL

Good info FABO! I wont be at that decision for some time but I'm researching it now. Probably going with a .920 or a tad bigger... Those PST 1.03 seem popular!

Lose the torsion bars if you want to put big headers on that 440.
There is a big header option that works with torsion bars. Bob Mazzolini Pro Part headers. They are step headers, 2 to 2 and 1/8" with 3.5" collectors. They are also partial fenderwell headers. Two tubes on the drivers side and on tube on the passenger side run through the wheelwells. The collectors are under the car next to the trans. I have them on my 440 Gold Duster and I even have factory power steering. On top of all that, they don't trap the starter like other long tube headers do.

I have .890s for my Barracuda which is what we have run in my son's 440/4sp Dart convertible. Both cars have factory big block sway bars, too. I really liked the .990s we had in my other son's Barracuda fastback, but I also liked the 1.14 bars we put in it later with BIG sway bars.

Harshness is over blown with these old boats, big bars are calmed easily with good shocks.

RCD Bilstien and FOX tuned come to mind.

A bodies are boats??? If you're living w/back pain and not planning on auto x-ing, .910
bars and a stabilizer is plenty for you.

I can vouch for Pro-parts headers, quality design, and semi fenderwell is easy to manipulate. sure you got to port your inner fenders but nothing a patch panel could not cover up. Big bars seem to be more popular nowadays, 1.03's with good shocks.

I think the header choice will be schumacher. Not looking for a big tube header, already having to repair the previous fenderwell header cutouts.

.920 maybe bars... and a decent shock ! Bilstien and FOX Ive both heard of

and from another post I was reading I like the MOOG front end parts such as bushings and ball joints.

Don't fear the big bars man, keep in mind these cars are way under sprung from the factory. ALSO, consider the offset UCA bushings so you can get radial caster numbers...These cars have a hard time with that with the stockers.. It goes without saying the MOOG 'problem solver' strut rod bushings are the ones to get...

Do yourself a favor and PM 72blunblu for a parts list..
