Anyone restore their vent windows, and if so do they need to come off for professional refinishing, or can they be cleaned up in place? If I can resto them without removal, what's the best course of action?

Not all vent window frames are pitted so badly. So first option is seek good used. If those aren't found at a decent/comparable price ( varies with model ) you can ship yours to a restore shop. Other owners/members have. I suppose they will chime in here with their results. Good luck

That's what I did (shipped to restore shop) with other body parts but was hoping to avoid removal. Thanks.

yep they have to come out. BUT you only need to take the pot metal(chrome piece ) off and ship to a restorer. there should be 2 or 3 screws on the front edge below the auxiliary vent window strip and a couple of screws on the vent wing assembly itself. getting it out and in is the hard part.
the back piece towards the drivers or passengers side window is stainless on my car and I'm asssssssuuuuming (you know where that get ya) yours is too. so it can be polished easily at home.
mines a 66 but yours should be close to this

when you get it this far you'll see what screws have to be removed from the pot metal piece make sure to look under the weather stripping to get them all (first pic you can see some of it peeled up from the wing vent)

Anything I need to know about replacing the gasket in mine. 65 Barracuda. I have the assembly out preparing to paint the car. I have new gaskets but haven't looked at how the gasket comes out

take it all apart. removing vent window(that roll pin will totally suck!) I had to drill mine out. pry out the old gasket starting at the top where there is a gap. clean metal (beadblast or just wire brush) on the stainless part I polished mine with the gasket out. Warm the gasket up in a pan of hot saopy water and use plastic tools to squeeze it back into the channel. it takes a bit of time ,but does come out nice. ohh don't forget to replace the vent window divider cushion while you have it out if they are bad.

yes the hardtops divider cushion is different than the convertible. if you look in post #4 you can see the difference. convertibles are flat topped

Is this a 67-69 Dart?
If so Just buy some nice used ones. I just disassembled 4 doors in the quest for 1 nice door and have 2 extra wing window sections. Unless you are redoing a 1 of 1 car they should pass. I will check them out....

Oops... Wait a minute. I took 3 pass doors apart so I only have 1 drivers and I need that. But I will send you the 2nd nicest one for cost of shipping.

I have a 68 Dart convertible, are the hardtop vent windows the same as the vert?

Same except for those rubbers. 67 uses different mounting in the door. I might still have 1 68 B'cuda vent window frame here somewhere. For left door if my memory serves. If its here its been stored for about 30 years.

I am going to look at a 68 Dart GTS hardtop parts car on Saturday. If the vent windows are in great shape, I should be good to go with fit, correct?

I tried to get a detailed photo real quick before I headed to work this morning.

Anyone know where to get the window channel fuzzie that gets effed up when you take the windows out?

These can be ordered from dealers, or some restorer shops. But, they are pricey. Stay away from repops, they don't fit and will fight you. Mopar part numbers are 1-02932230.
