I know this is a stupid question but here goes. How much transmission fluid needs to be removed when pulling the driveshaft?

None,... It will run out on its own! :). Just messing with you! Kind of.

I have never "Removed" any transmission fluid to pull the driveshaft. I have a spare yoke, and if I have to remove the driveshaft, I insert the spare yoke to keep it from continuing to drain. Then when I put the driveshaft back in, I just top it off again.

I got one of these at harbor freight. Can’t find it online though, Was less than $5 if I recall. Summit calls it a transmission plug tool

Or you can just raise the *** end and you'll only get a dribble. The higher the less dribble!! It doesn't get much to get the fluid to shift towards the front of the trans like a driveway on a downhill angle. Treblig

OH!!! I forgot, if you do it on a downhill driveway be to sure to positively block the front tires......we don't want any squooosed FABO members!!!

I just found one of those in my tool box. IIRC it doesnt really fit the 904 that well. Also it depends on how far you have it tipped. I heard an old Anicin (asparin) bottle works on a 904. Cut the taper off and slide it into the seal, then duct tape it so it doesnt fall out.

You could always just unscrew the neutral safety switch and let it drain out from there; easy to catch every drop. i think it's a 1" deep socket.

Yup...jack up the back end and none will come out. I just got finished changing out the rear end in my '67 Dart, and no fluid at all came out when I pulled the driveshaft.
