Sorry it took so long to respond I was in the 318 taking a whirlwind and when I was done I wiped my 318 with some Whirlwind paper...:D

First it looks like I used 1 and 1/2 by 2 and 1/2. You can choose your thickness. They were four feet long to start. and I did this filet cut to add more welding surface to the front. At the rear I made three simple cuts and opened up like a mouth to receive the rectangle stock. I shoved it in there and then pulled it forward to wear it grabbed onto the front frame.

I think I had $37 into the Steelyard for a 10-footer that they cut into two 4ft pieces forI th and I had the two footer left over the time now used on a sled deck and have this piece left over LOL
now you know why I preach that you can buy an $89 Harbor Freight welder a $50 helmet it $5 pair of gloves and $37 in metal stock and still not have much into those $200 ones they send to your door that everybody recommend you weld on anyways LOL

I like how you notched the front to attach them.
Did you move the emergency brake cable? Or did it clear?

So how far did the channel slide inside at the rear?

First off emergency brake cable!? LOL
I'd say it shoved in there about 8 in or so I wanted it to at least get to that quarter-size lineup hole so I can weld that up too..
of course it's been some time since I did it so I can't remember how far back in there I went, but also it could be cut open and shove a piece of stock in there and see how far it will go. I imagine the more you put in there the stronger...
 
I've been meaning to re hook up that emergency brake cable for years. Dammit maybe this year...

Maybe Jaba should have kept that old Yamaha Exciter, and I could have grabbed an old sled of some sort, and we could have dragged them...… LOL

My 1st sled was a '76 Yamaha Exciter. 440 fan cooled. 60 bucks :) Poor condition, but it was a scream'n machine to me. My speedometer didn't work, but I played with a Kawasaki 440 fan on plowed gravel road and his speedometer showed 70 mph and he was crouched and full throttle. LOL...
 
Ok, back to building "something"..... LOL (still not sure what) :D

I got one of the 596 heads ported. About 7 hrs on just this head.

no, about the only swap meet I traveled to was Jefferson, Wis. And I haven't done that in about 4 years. Kind of out of room to store junk. My plan is to close out 1 of my storage sheds by June.

I quite going to Jefferson because everything I wanted was about 10% cheaper for used than buying new.
165 bucks for something 2nd hand when I can buy new shipped to my door for 189... LOL
 
LOADED FOR BEAR....... LOL
made a trip and got some more "head supplies".... LOL I'll finish this set and be ready for future works .. :)
