It is amazing the number of oddball and freak problems that arise while building these old cars !

Every Mon/Wed/Fri I get up at 5 am and play hockey . So last Wednesday on my way there in the Fastback I start getting a loud grinding sound from the rear driverside wheel. I pull into a convenience store and try to figure it out but its too dark and I dont feel like jacking with it. So I head back home and park it in the garage.

Yesterday I jack it up . pull the wheel off and find my adhesive wheel weights have fallen off and gotten wedged between the rotor (Rear discs) and the caliper !

What are the chances that they could hit the 1/4” rotor perfectly enough to ride the rotor around and fit perfectly between the calipr mounts !!!

At least it was an easy fix !

That sound like something that was a relief when you found out what it was. Grinding noises like that are frequently not as easy or cheap

I had just taken a 400 mile road-trip with no issues then have that happen 3 miles into my morning trip to hockey... I couldnt visualizewhat itcould be!

Had same thing happen with a small stone. Left a nice grove in an otherwise perfectly good rotor

No... they were on top of the rotor ! Kinda balancing on the outer edge . The width of the weights is a little narrower than the caliper housing.
What are the odds of this happening ?

The point of the thread is unlikely events happening during a resto or rebuild . So many things have happened the are unlikely !

What are the chances a flock of birds dive bombs me while I'm accidentally traveling at 70 mph in a 65 zone . So I slow down to not nail them, and a mile or so down the road is the radar speed trap. I pay attention to the birds now.

What are the chances that something like 50% of all the businesses I have ever worked at...... went out of business shortly after I left them. I got me a government job now.

I built myself a real nice shop to spend my retirement years working in, but I'm 66 now and still semi-retired, working 24 hrs a week on the clock, and many more for cash. And the shop is an expensive storage shed. What are the chances I die before I retire and the shop becomes a pemanent shed.

I wouldn’t include that on your resumes ! Lol

All of them have went under except 2. And one of them filed for Bankruptcy and are just using public dollars to employ people.... Yep, I might as well put it on my resume since Printing is dying quickly so there won't be any place left for me to apply and it won't matter lol...

funny you say that; every new employer knew that already, as I have been working in the same community doing the same kind of work since 1984. Just hopping from one sinking ship to another.
We are down to three bike shops now, if you include the Harley place, and the place that sells the Chinese junk. Japanese bikes just got expensive... but worse is insuring them to legally ride them on our roads, the government has a monopoly on that. Like they own the natural gas, the hydro electricity, and so many other things. Yet they say we live in a democracy............ I didn't elect not one of those lieing, thieving, murdering, effeminate, dogs. Is that harsh? maybe..... if it wasn't true.
But yaknow, I still think southern Manitoba is like the Garden of Eden. And all my needs are still being met, with blessings to spare.
Ok not really like the Garden, cuz we don't have the gold, the pearls, the perfumery, etc.
But the lack of; hurricanes, typhoons, tsunami's, scorpions ,venomous creatures, big predator cats, etc , not to mention war, makes for relatively peaceful living.
Oh sure you had to mention northern winters. Hey winters are just the best time to curl up with the Mrs. And a chance to build up reserves for the coming summer.

I left Winnipeg in 2013 due in part to the overly high taxation and cost of living, thanks in no small part to the NDP regime. I sold my last motorcycle in '06 when the annual basic insurance premium at MPI became more than the bike was worth. I owned a 1984 Mustang GT convertible when I left there, annual insurance premium on it was $927.00, after a 25% discount was applied for a good driving record. Insurance and registration on that car in southern Alberta was under $500.00 a year. Yet MPI insists that their rates are among the lowest in the country. I call bullshit. In twenty years of no claims, annual coverage on my 1970 Dart had climbed from around $200.00 to over $600.00, without additional coverage for appraised value.
Don't even get me started on the winters and 3 weeks of 25 below, 2 plus foot tall windrows left by snowplows behind my garage, crumbling roads, etc. I have been back a few times, and when I compare life there to what I enjoy here, I only wish I had left much sooner than I did.

Since I work for the municipality, I can direct my chitgiving directly to the grader operators. My windrows are minimal.
Since I rarely venture outside my community, I rarely notice the sad sad state of Manitoba roads.
I can't do much about the cold weeks except cuddle up.
My kids are all gone from home, my dog don't eat much, the only debt I have is the mortguage, and between the wife and I working and pooling resources, there is plenty of cash circulating. We are growing old, lazy, and fat together; life is good.
But I agree; I used to have a buddy that moved to Alta. That was some 40 years ago..... and he ain't ever coming back. that plick
And people give me stuff. I ordered another fabric shed last week, to hide all the stuff in, until the town-wide garage sale next year. Man the stuff that comes to me.
