I have a SBC cam of unknown maker/specs that I needed Cam Doctor'd. Did it for me no charge. That was nice of them.

Got a complete print out, too.

The cam came out of a circle track engine... good specs. 255/258 @050. 548/546 lift on 106 lsa. Darn near the same as my kids dirt mod runs...

Nice daily driver cam....

Interesting in that Howard's told me it can use solid or juice lifters. Came with solids.

Really cool. From everything I've read about that company, it's very professional. They offer some nice grinds too. I especially like how their grinds sometimes have more lift than another comparable brand.

I have my favorite cam grinder but Howard's price on a real Mopar cam is $70-80 cheaper. Might buy one of each and get some dyno time to see which is better.

They have several Harold Brookshire grinds in their master catalog...

They didn't charge me anything to Cam Doctor the thing so I sent the counter guy a 1962 Howard's catalog I had stashed away as a simple thank you.

That was pretty nice. I actually had no idea they went that far back. Pretty interesting.

Back further than that
one of the first popular aluminum rods
Used to wrench for Lefty and Chet against Jack Chrisman in Howard's "Twin Bear" the one with the side by side 3/8 stroke 283 chevies with the chain drive 4-71's plywood air deflector was a nice touch and place for a big "Howards Cams" logo.
In that timeframe we used to "match race" (mostly to stay away from Leonard Harris in the Albertson Olds dragster (best driver ever IMHO).
Big rivalry in "Drag News"
fact of the matter we traveled together
At the short, rough Colton strip one dragster sheared an oil pump. Other crew pulled the pump out of their tow truck. The other truck push started both. Then lots of smoke for the crowd and an early shut off to stay from the hazardous top end.
Pump back in the truck and off for coffee
RIP Jack, Lefty, Chet, Howard
Drag racing was fun back then.

I wish I could have been there with you, Krooser.
Wrymrider is the guy you'd want to hang around with...hob nobbing with the legends of drag racing on those old California drag strips. Having a part in Barney Navarro's Indy 500 effort in 'the late 60's. Knowing guys like Navarro, Jack Chrisman, Chet Herbert, Howard Johanson, Vic Edelbrock, Ed Iskerderian and other racing legends.

I'd like to have Jim tell us a few stories about his early days with those guys at the strip...
